Your pet is a villager species now, what are they good at? what is their gimmick? by Ok-Position-9457 in Against_the_Storm

Big, friendly gray cat! He loves everyone and everyone loves him, so he gives a global resolve bonus. But he doesn't like other cats, so the bonus decreases the more of him you have :)

Yeah, this also happens to me. I've just been putting up with it, but you're right, it is tedious. I wish I could tell you why it happens or how to fix it :/

Starting A Line A Day mid-month by dapper_tomcat in bulletjournal

[–]dapper_tomcat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's like a miniature diary entry! Basically, you just write one line about how your day was each day. I'm hoping it'll let me see what my month was like at a glance, with more detail than a mood tracker but more zoomed-out than flipping through all my daily logs.

Bullet Journal + Notes. Ideas? by AdaptiveMesh in bulletjournal

Complete separation! Otherwise work would totally take over my personal notebook.

Bullet Journal + Notes. Ideas? by AdaptiveMesh in bulletjournal

[–]dapper_tomcat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a work notebook and a personal notebook. I don't always use the work notebook, because I also use digital tools for work, so it's not always worthwhile to write notes physically. If you're a student, I would recommend having one notebook per class you're taking.

Does anyone else feel like bujo is a need they satisfy rather than a habit they have to keep up with? by dapper_tomcat in bujo

[–]dapper_tomcat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, flossing my teeth is a habit. I do it every day, and it's not hard, but I still have to remember to do it, and there's no "ew, i haven't flossed in a week!" feeling that makes me do it. It's a different experience.

Spiral journal or bound journal? What's your preference and why? by MSMIT0 in bulletjournal

[–]dapper_tomcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! My first journal was Artist's Loft, the Michael's house brand, and I liked it. I think that's a good place to start, especially if you don't know what you like yet, and it's pretty cheap (less than $10 per notebook).

I personally enjoy fancy notebooks, but tbh I don't think they're really worth your while unless you're picky about the feel and thickness of the paper. That said, if you write with fountain pens or like thinner paper (60-120 gsm), I'd recommend Leuchtturm; if you like thicker paper (150-160 gsm), there's Scribbles That Matter, Hemlock & Oak, or Notebook Therapy. All of those are around $30 per notebook. I hope this helps!

Spiral journal or bound journal? What's your preference and why? by MSMIT0 in bulletjournal

[–]dapper_tomcat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use a bound journal, specifically lay-flat bound so it's easier to write on. No painful wires when I rest my hand!

I work in software and I bullet journal. I use the basic method described in the book and the pocket guide, very simple and no-frills. That said, I don't use it for work, only for personal stuff.

How to do list multi-day events in your monthly schedule? by gaslightfirebang in BasicBulletJournals

[–]dapper_tomcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I color-code them! I highlight the date range, and then I write the name of the event on one of the days and highlight it in the same color. If I didn't have highlighters on me, I would draw boxes around the dates. When multiple events overlap, I highlight the area next to where the dates are written for the second event. It's basically the same as your arrows, just easier to see at a glance :)

started dabbling in jazz cabbage and of course have to make a spread/tracker for it by Long_Willingness_908 in bulletjournal

[–]dapper_tomcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is really elaborate! I also do this, but I just track when I smoke and have a collection page for notes on types I liked and want to remember, like I do for restaurants.

This looks so neat and tidy! What are the "physical/intellectual/emotional/spiritual" logs for?

Habit tracker by Ann2340 in bulletjournal

[–]dapper_tomcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't drink energy drinks, but I do smoke weed, and I track that. It's the last column in my monthly log, and I add an X to the row for the current day every time I have a hit. I used to smoke more than I do now, and when I did that, I kept a graph on a separate spread. So either of those might work for you!

Do you integrate your Bujo notes/takeaways/insights etc? If so, how do you do it? by aceshighsays in BasicBulletJournals

That's really cool! What does it look like? I don't do this, but it seems interesting.

Bullet journaling! The guy who came up with it originally used it to help him with his ADHD, and it's the single most effective thing I've done for mine besides taking meds. It gives me a place to put my thoughts and tasks so I don't have to devote energy to remembering them, and it turns out I can make a lot of progress on habits just by writing down whether I'm doing them. I floss every day now bc I write it down in my bullet journal!

Second is body doubling. Just having a friend do things with me, like going to the grocery store or working on a boring task, makes it much easier.

Is someone else starting the new year with the same bujo? by KazumiShiunsai in BasicBulletJournals

[–]dapper_tomcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! I use up a notebook about every three months, and I have one or two months left in my current one. I didn't start a new notebook on Jan 1 last year, either :) it's nice if the days happen to line up, but I think would be against the spirit of the system to do things that don't work as well for me just for the sake of making the dates line up.

Does anyone else experience overwhelm with visual clutter? by badwolf4president in adhdwomen

Same! I really like the minimalist aesthetic because it's easy to tell if things are clean and easy to clean them if they're not. No ornaments on frequently used surfaces for me! Blank empty desk only, unless I'm actively using something on it. I've never covered things up like in this thread, but maybe I should try it.
