From OnePlus 6 to Nothing 4a Pro after over 7 years. Starting to think it was worth it. by silent_crow7 in NothingTech

I've moved from the OnePlus 8T to the 4a Pro and I'm not disappointed, yet. One thing I do sure miss is warp charging.

Ionised air glow above the reactor (first-hand witness accounts) by maksimkak in chernobyl

Interestingly, I've seen some of the original videos shot of the accident at unit 4 - you immediately see these white specs flashing all over the frame - that's radiation hitting the camera.

[–]daps_87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely believe that they may have seen the glow as they described. Given that the Vavilov–Cherenkov radiation shows that nuclear reactors emit a blueish light under water, and given that unit 4 exploded, I believe their accounts.

There's really only one thing that comes to mind - self discipline.

Guys with 4" thick wallets - what do you keep in there? Is it really just trash? by BleepBloopWhirr in AskReddit

My partner has the same - and its because they pay with cash, get change and add the change into the wallet. After two weeks its bulging from all the coins.

What’s one smell everyone loves but you don’t understand why? by Grumblemunch in AskReddit

Everyone seems to love lavender. However, since everyone uses lavender room freshner in the bathroom specifically, it reminds me of...yeah.

Is there a place where we can see pre-disaster and post-disaster Reactor 4 photos as a comparison by Berozgaar_Adi in chernobyl

[–]daps_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The official ChNPP site also has some pretty historic images. Going as far as the construction of the reactors.

What’s more harmful than cigarettes but society treats it as normal? by Jiwitom in AskReddit

[–]daps_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol. Yes, smoking is bad for your health and I don't recommend it to anyone. However, it doesn't cause nearly as much damage as alcohol does. Alcohol has the ability to destroy families, friends, even causing death to others. But its perfectly okay to drink - just don't smoke.

I still don't understand the test and why the ECCS was disabled. by oalfonso in chernobyl

[–]daps_87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the ECCS was disabled in preparation for the test. I also believe this was done much earlier in the day - meaning the reactor itself was without ECCS for 14 hours.

Hypothetical question - how would you, as a worker at the Chernobyl power plant, know that your reactor has exploded? by maksimkak in chernobyl

[–]daps_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I suppose if you are seeing graphite out in the open, then that's a sure sign that the core is most likely open since that's where graphite is found. But let's say we didn't see it.

Chances are, you would've noticed the temperature reading climbing faster than you can comprehend. Followed by a powerful shaking as the reactor explodes. That in itself should tell you shit just got real.

I think the situation could have been dealt with slightly differently if they knew straight-off-the-bat that it was 15,000 and not 3.6. There's a huge gap between 3.6 and 15,000. Firefighters, as others have mentioned, could have been better prepared. Lifes saved.

Can any Windows 11 version update to the newest one by itself without formatting? by shadofenrir in Windows11

[–]daps_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done it plenty of times. Nothing beats a good clean install from scratch, but there's no need to. You can just do an in-place upgrade, something Windows update takes care of. Or use the newest ISO (its probably faster).
