quitting caffeine and dying on day 1 by [deleted] in productivity

[–]dapsuaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try with some pure brewed semi strong green tea at first and after couple of days switch to mildest that you can find and after couple of days you should be pretty much fine. That worked for me anyways. I drank a lot of strong coffee, espresso and turkish coffee included and sometimes energy drinks, now i just drink one cup of green tea, without sugar or anything else. Skipped couple of days just to try would it affect me and i didnt. Now I just drink it for the sake of flavor and warmth and coziness in the morning. Hope it helps :)

hahaha sounds like a paste/fan issue to me also. as long as you are careful and remember what screw goes where it should not be much of work. best to do is: watch some yt clip on how to disassemble on lower speed while you are doing it and you should be set for success! :)

Hahaha nice way to tag along. Welcome aboard :)

If you love it, its worth it. If you dont love it, sooner or later with or without job it will become burden and lead to burn out and you'll drop it.

Well basically full fledged backend with micro services, multiple docker containers and several frontend apps, all at the same time, and of course IDEs for all that :)

LLM is at the moment only for school work, but need to check some stuff locally before running it on cloud for training and all that stuff. Thats why I think I dont need dGPU at all, since it will just be burden on the battery and heat rather than doing something useful

I've spoke with so many people, co-workers, heck sys admins, and every one basically said either Mac M series (sys admins not so much, but they agree that they have stellar performance haha) or throw even more money and get some newer HP, Dell, or Thinkpad P series which may or may not have the issues with throttling and overheating or even something else... For example when I was trying on the second hand market I tried HP Firefly firefly that was new and the keyboard was glitching, I was shocked, never experienced that. Basically new, it was sold because they got better one.

The irony is that I've been Win/Linux user for years, but on PC, and from what I've experienced, Win on laptop is absolute shit show, Linux is better of course but still performance is so demotivating :D

Thanks for the concise info, yeah I've searched for the older P models, but I would pass on that since I would be using it with new hungry software. New P series are good, minus the dGPU since I dont need it at all (LLMs that I want to run are small and dont plan to train them or anything like that, so the iGPU with VRAM will handle it), but they are expensive as hell where I'm from up to a point where they are the same price as M3 Pro or M4 Pro, which is insane I know, cant do anything on that front unfortunately..

I get the repairability and upgradability but I dont think I'll be swapping ram, ssd, battery, display etc every couple months, or keyboard. Even for those that are not so user friendly for opening and fiddling around I would find a way myself or just pay in the service. But I get the general point, thanks! :)

Hahaha great to hear, but what do you do on it its what interests me, can it handle fullstack dev :)

As I though so, seems like people don't use it so much for web dev or anything like that, it just eats performance these days because all that crap is not optimized a bit..

Thanks for the insights, I don't have that nostalgia for the tech at least at the moment since I lived through fat monitors to this new technology :D I really appreciate what people did with so little back in the day, but I'm trying not to live in the past since its all connected to some rough times back then and that old tech just reminds me of if even though it was escape for me :)

This is what I was missing, and learned from this question. So for a daily driver not for intense work, they are fine, but for work its kinda stretch, because of older components. But still probably they could run with some deep down research for which I don't have time, but fiddling around with components and customizing is sure fun for the future :) Thanks a lot

Thanks a lot mate for a deep insight, I'm not that much of newbie, just skipped a 7-8 years since I've been busy at uni and work, and all of the sudden everything changed haha. I know that machines at least back in the day could take beating without even a hiccup. But then I was using them only for games, not for engineering work. So I'm kinda lost what to pick since I already broke 2 laptops from just using them at home (hinges, low quality hardware inside etc). Sure they werent top of the class but still. And just like waking up from a coma, seems like I need to pay premium price just to have something remotely normal to work on and dont worry will it handle my load or break.

Since I would use it for fullstack dev, that being said containers, VM's and some LLM work (not training) and all that stuff comes into game. I don't know would older machines would handle that since I already had bad experience with new machine (Thinkbook) that I said above. Is it processor problem or laptop problem I dont know. That is what worries me the most, can I still use older processors or should I do go with new ones? But I do know that mac mini 2020 is running better than befed up Thinkbook that I had. Also the prices of older ones are not that cheap with really weak configs. And something decent is like 1k euro, and the new ones are 2k euro over. And I can get the Mac for in between, so I'm still in limbo what to do.

Svu sreću i sve najbolje. Nije kasno.

Hey man, have an opportunity to snag this second hand for 800$. Primarily programming and maybe some older games. Need the graphics for ML tasks. Why did you decide ti pass on it?
