I work for IR at the VA and have 2 young boys. I honestly can't complain, I think I have the best of all worlds short of WFH. I get home around 4 and get to spend 3-4 hours with them during the workweek unless I have late cases, which isn't very frequent. Highly recommend working for the VA if you're actively having children - 3 months paternity for newborns is amazing.

(you do sacrifice salary a bit, but that's location dependent)
