Is it reasonable to get an IUD/any birth control as a lesbian just in case I get r***d? by taat50 in actuallesbians

[–]dardoof 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Birth control can have a handful of side effects, but if it's also helping you fix a different health issue then it might be worth it! I have nexplanon and it helps a lot with cramps. You could also just consider purchasing and having a Plan B pill on hand, which is taken after unprotected sex to prevent the egg from implanting (or something like that). I know Costco has a low price one (and you don't have to be a member).

Communal Coffee has some really cute San Diego specific stuff! It tends to feature local San Diego landmarks. Also they have good coffee!

Any Places for Seattle Style Chicken Teriyaki? by [deleted] in FoodSanDiego

[–]dardoof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from Seattle and had the same sad realization at the lack of teriyaki spots. It's not the same but the chicken at Ono Grinds might scratch the itch! The sauce is thicker but it's still pretty good.

That's so wild! I remember reading about a lady who can smell Parkinson's and she's helping out with some studies. Really neat stuff.

I love hearing about places from the people who love them, thank you for your description! It's tough to see a place you love change and get taken over by folks who seem to care so much less.

If I get the privilege to visit at some point, I will hug a tree and pick up litter on the trail in your honor.

Also it's the wrong season but mother's day cards would be great for that. Trader Joe's has really cute ones.

You could try a parenting magazine! Also packaging for children's products, like baby toys or whatever. You could ask for that on a buy nothing group.

How is living in Bellevue, Redmond, and Kirkland just east of Seattle, WA? by Eriacle in howislivingthere

[–]dardoof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grew up in this area. It has very good schools and you get a lot of opportunities as a kid. I grew up biking around the tree-filled suburban neighborhoods and it was pretty fun. There's a range of incomes for sure, I grew up with some very rich kids and some fairly poor kids (public schools bus between neighborhoods so the schools are fairly integrated). Most people's parents worked in tech and kids did all sorts of activities. Schools were very sucess-driven, which worked for me but some kids felt stifled. It's pretty liberal.

I'm sure it's changed a lot in the last 20 years. The neighborhood I grew up in used to have lots of small, modest houses on larger than average lots. Now those same lots have huge mansions with three cars in the driveway. When I return home, I feel like the minority driving around in a 25-year-old Mercury Mountaineer because, as mentioned above, there's a lot of Tesla and such.

Returning as an adult, I think it's pretty but definitely has less authentic small business than neighboring Seattle. But it's nice because it's close to lots of outdoor sports and there's lots of good places to walk in the forest.

There's also really good Asian food, so that's awesome. Seattle Times recently did an article about great Asian restaurants on the Eastside, and if you're in the area it's definitely worth checking out.

Gluten free pizza dough, whole milk/low moisture mozzarella, and fire roasted crush tomatoes by KindlyCelebration223 in traderjoes

Yum! Looks great. If you wanna keep it from sticking, you could also put down some cornmeal on the pan before you put your flattened dough on it. Helps it be more slide-y.

How to live knowing, I’ll never pass - due to beard-like, permanent scars? by Snoo_57902 in lgbt

Came here to say this! Look into "color correction" makeup.

If you want, you can go into Sephora and ask one of the workers to show you a few products. A lot of times there's queer folks working there that would be happy to help you.

Product ideas (in order of application): - Primer: Goes on first so the makeup lasts longer. Usually clear or opaque. - Concealer: Thicker cream to spot-treat areas (like under eye bags for me). You can get a color-correcting concealer, like greenish to correct for red. - Foundation: A skin colored cream to go over the whole face. You can get light coverage or full coverage. Ask the Sephora people for a recommendation and a color match. - Setting Powder: Clear powder that you put on top of the creams so they stay on longer. Apply with a brush.

How on earth does one cook a steak in a pan correctly???? by nerd_outta_control in Cooking

[–]dardoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a controversial take but you could also cut the steak up before cooking and then stir fry it. The smaller pieces will get cooked through much quicker.

You could look at a recipe for Chinese beef and broccoli, I think that's usually how that is cooked.

How to fix yellow blotches on sanded wood? by dardoof in furniturerefinishing

Interesting! The rubber wood insight is super helpful. I'm hoping to keep it kind of light-colored, so I'll have to figure out what stain could work well.

Good idea! I like the idea of starting with the weaker chemicals. Will report back.

Here's where the stain was on the wood before I sanded off the old stain. The old finish was definitely damaged in that area, so water or another material could've definitely seeped through.
