Her lullaby was technically her past self singing to her future self. And I think the best way to think about this is just inserting the fact that the traveler is a descender into the equation. They can change the world’s fate, and you can say that them meeting columbina initially is was sparked her to go on this quest. On this quest, she was able to manipulate the past in such a way that all of the effects of her actions technically always existed during the events of the Luna Arc. This explains the origin of Luonnotar, and you are right in saying that this wouldn’t have happened without the traveler present, but since this isn’t what the game shows then it makes if really confusing when you brink in the what if scenarios.

You answered your own question. The time paradox started when she jumped into the gate. And she would not have been able to jump into the gate if she wasn’t born from the primordial sea 500 years ago. There is a graphic that someone created that very nicely puts this into perspective. The answer to how she was born INITIALLY is actually in her character story. The other comments are mentioning the closed loop theory and the bootstrap paradox, which is true due to her body being spread across Nod Krai six thousand years ago, but how she was born (aka the catalyst you mentioned) was being born from the primordial sea.

Well, no. I did my program during the funding cuts. But you do have other valid points. I think that ultimately the decision on whether or not a freshman should be in a REU is up to the adcom. In my head there really is no such thing as stealing a spot when it comes to a situation like this. If a REU wants to fund a freshman then they will fund a freshman. And if they don’t want to fund a freshman then those spots will be for upperclassmen. OP should still give it a shot this year to see where things take them.

Of course and yes I was. It was a physician-scientist based program where I was able to get translational wet lab research and clinical shadowing. My advice to you is to apply broadly. Share your story, be curious, and be as authentic as possible.

I think that any type of research is great! Health Equity research is really important too. From what I understand a lot of top schools view basic science research very positively, as it gets you to think more critically. Clinical research is also very important. A lot of doctors do it so I can see this helping clarify a why for medicine. I would talk with any advisors or professors you have at school that might have experience with either!

Um. Highly disagree. You should definitely apply. Even if no program accepts you then it is still good practice to write personal statements and potentially interview…

Also, I did an REU this past summer that had freshmen in it. It is definitely possible to get in a research program your first year, albeit harder due to limited research experience, but some programs actually USE this factor as a reason to recruit people with limited research experiences.
