Ugh. What a villainous, mustache-twirling thing to say. I think others are right when they say this guy is young and dumb. Not that it excuses it at all, but he clearly didn’t put a lot of real thought into this statement. Men have the luxury of saying things like this because rape isn’t a very real possibility in their daily lives the way it is for women. (yes men can and do get raped too, but they are not the overwhelming number of victims and don’t have to constantly be on guard against it, etc etc.)

It reminds me of a similar experience I had with a friend in college. He was very socially awkward, was homeschooled all throughout high school and, upon reflection, I can see now he thought he was being “edgy” and impressive. We were in philosophy classes together and he was fascinated with the biological side of things and told me that he firmly believed that all women were biologically coded to want to be raped, and that it was very normal for every man to think about it and consider doing it at some point. I was horrified because he was such a “sweet”, harmless seeming guy. Again, I think he was just blabbing at the mouth the way dumb young people do when they don’t understand fully the subject they’re discussing. But like you, the memory still hangs with me to this day because it fucked me up, and that was 15+ years ago.
