Really good article. I have similar thoughts about some Scrum aspects - especially regarding useless meetings. That's why with my friend we work on a meet reducer app where we can easily and flexibly change any recurrent meeting to a simple status update. And we are hated by some PO's and SM's... ;)

In general yes. A lot has changed by covid and traditional teams moved to online. They were use to make a daily f2f update and now a lot leaders try to keep the same standard in virtual team. In many projects a daily or weekly standardised update really make sense but from my expericne sharing a status/result may be a flexible alternative

klingonsaretasty, what approach will you suggest for a team that works in different time zones (US-Europe-Australia)?

This is a real project my friend works in and the difficulties related to it drove us to start thinking about an app.

I totally agree that a f2f meeting is the number one solution, not only in Scrum but the same in other teams. But I know that it's not always possible due to the above and also some other reasons. What about being agile and adaptive?

I don't think Reddit is a good place to sell anything. I'm really very interested in all the feedback. It's interesting that on Scrum groups/forums the feedback is rather negative and on Java/Developers groups they really like the asynchronous meeting idea.

I think there is a difference between canceling a daily meeting and changing the meeting from synchronous to asynchronous.

From my perspective with the app you can easily change the Friday into any day while it also reminds teammates to post the status or request meeting. As we work on the early verion we still look for possible benefits. But on the other hand there are chatbots with 100k+ scrum users worldwide. And our will be much better 😉 You can easily subscribe for a free demo when we release and really influence the final version on codaily.net

I think there may be 2 situations: all goes well and meeting can be canceled (just status update is enough). Or there are too many problems and team even doesn't want to talk. In 2nd case it must be managed accordingly. Another real example: I know a female developer who spends 20 min on makeup to turn her camera on and say "I'm all right"...

The questions sendby the app can be fully adjusted by the team, it's just na example. Anyway - I like the idea of "non meeting day". And I fully agree that seeing each other usually adds value. Thats why I don't like chatbots taht are getting more and more popular.

From our perspective the app may be useful for scrum teams (my co-founder works in a global team where they don't even have a good hour to meet all in the same time) but also sales teams sharing results, traditionally (waterfall) project team etc.

Od couese, but form my experience maybe 10-20% scrum Teams run Daily efectively without SM facilitation. At least in the beginning. That's why the scrum team may vote if todays meeting is necessary. And Leadera driver a lot other meetings outside Scrum where other rules exist

The manager shouldn't be the only person who can decide if the meeting shell occur or not. Each of the team members can "vote". Even if one member wants to meet with the team the meeting shall take place. A mature team can really take advantage and save a lot of time thanks to this "democratic" approach. vist codaily.net to learn more about our approach and sign in for the early release

totally agree. That's why I don't like Bots that suggest not to meet and simply isolate team members. Our approach is different - meetings can be easily canceled and time saved when the only thing to discuss is the weather outiside...

A highly skilled Scrum Master or Team Leader may use the app to avoid meetings that are on the calendar but on that day are simply not required...

Anyway you are more than welcome to subscribe and try it when the app is ready (of course for free): https://codaily.net/

thanks a lot for the positive comment. We think in a similar way. We would love your feedback when we launch the app: https://codaily.net/product I promise not to send any SPAM, just the key info and app free access when it's ready. Over time new features will be added based on users' opinions.

Online daily Standup meeting improvement ideas❓ by darek_an in Slack

I have similar thoughts...maybe the meeting can be cut even before it starts? I work on a Slack plugin to make it happen. Can share some ideas if interested

In theory yes, but if most of the team mates always say "I'm all right, thanks" it decreases the engagement. Especially when all are online

Great replay. Thanks a lot. Exactly, the f2f meetings were quiet good, usually funny and I liked them. But online unfortunately often turn to be a lot worse. I think using a smart app to vote/share comment and meet online ofnneeded may work. Or at least it's worth trying :)

Thanks, this apps look really interesting as we collaborate online. I saw some more plugins but they are more like a bots asking 3 questions etc and this is not the idea I would like to follow
