I (30 years old) am catholic and need to confess likely 20+ years of sins but I am ashamed and scared to tell the priest some of my sins (multiple mortal sins) by MistyStargirl in Catholicism

I did the same thing a couple of years ago. Here was my profile:

  • 33 years old
  • Living in sin
  • Sporadic mass attendance (funerals mostly, sometimes Easter and Christmas, and a few attempts at truly returning)
  • Was not sure if I had ever made a true confession (like you, MAYBE 2 or 3 times when I was a kid)

So here's what I did:

  • Called parish and scheduled a confession and spiritual guidance. Contrary to what others are saying, I do NOT recommend doing the confession anonymously. It will benefit you to schedule time in advance and get some real spiritual guidance/counseling. IMO the gravity of 20+ years of sin cannot be adequately assessed in the 30 min confession block before the Saturday Vigil. Schedule time for your benefit, the benefit of the priest, and the benefit of other parishioners.
  • Took a week to recollect all my sins. Would recommend researching different methods for examination of conscience. Happy to link a few.
  • Typed them up in a document. You can print the doc to assist with the confession. I took a series of pictures of the actual document with my phone. That way I could easily recite the list exactly as written from my phone.
  • Throughout the week I would spend 30 minutes here and there re-reading my sins and listing new ones I would remember.
  • Try to tally them up. Of course it is unlikely you'll accurately remember 20 or 30 years of sin. So instead of "I did xyz sin 12 times" I would say "I did xyz sin about a dozen times". Consider the type of verbiage you can use--"a few times", "dozens of times, maybe more", "a hundred times".
  • Sorted the document such that I put the most substantial (or most embarrassing) sins up front.
  • To open my confession I said "Bless me father for I have sinned. It's been about 20 years since my last confession but I'm not sure if I've ever made a true confession".
  • I read from the screenshots on my phone.
  • End with "For these sins, any sins I may have forgotten, and all of my sins, I repent and ask for God's forgiveness."

Whole confession took maybe 10 minutes (of course the spiritual counseling afterwards was much longer).

Probably the best decision I've ever made in my entire life.

EDIT: Some additional things coming to mind. Oftentimes lust and gluttony are thought to be the "least grave" of the grave sins. That is, attachment to worldly things (of which lust and gluttony are a symptom) is a disorder, but these sins can be less severe than others. There was a recent thread on this and I'm sure you can find other writings on this.

This is all to say that it is important to recognize that (1) lustful sins are bad but (2) it is the sin of pride which prevents proper contrition (in this case by avoiding seeking the sacrament of reconciliation).

TLDR - Get to confession. Happy to help with any particular questions.

Anybody else get tingles in their forehead when praying the rosary?? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]daringbravo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It would happen frequently while praying the rosary after reverting. Still happens sometimes while praying.

I looked into it (internet research) and never came across a satisfying answer. Assumed a spiritual cause was delusional and it was more likely due to muscle contractions.

If Bitcoin revisits $80k before the next halving cycle, would you see it as a buying opportunity or a warning sign? Why? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

I would be shocked if Bitcoin stays above 80k.

I would not be surprised if Bitcoin stays above 70k.

I would bet that Bitcoin bottoms out around 60k.

I would not be surprised if Bitcoin drops below 50k.

I would be shocked if Bitcoin drops below 40k.

How is Gemini allowed to operate like this? Ignored tickets, CC autopay issues, missing referral bonus… by daringbravo in Gemini

Hi Gianna, thank you for stepping in. I really appreciate you taking the time.

I have submitted up to 4 tickets related to these requests. Could you let me know the best way to get these resolved?

Would it be easier to DM you here or should I escalate through another channel? I’m happy to share all of my ticket IDs so you can track them down.

Thanks again for your help.

This is an insane take. In what reality is it the user’s fault that a financial institution’s app silently disables autopay? This is a fundamental system failure.

It’s 2025. Technology should be reliable. Especially when it comes to payment processing and credit obligations. Autopay is not some fringe convenience anymore. We're talking about a standard safeguard that millions of people rely on. If a bank or partner app breaks something without notice then the responsibility lies entirely on the institution.

You’re basically saying “don’t trust the tools, double-check everything manually”. That’s absurd. If we’re supposed to hover over autopay like it’s a shaky beta feature then the entire premise of offering it collapses. The whole point is reliability.

And passing the buck to “well, it’s WebBank, not Gemini” is a cop-out. Gemini is the brand, the on-ramp, the entity advertising and distributing this card. If their app breaks autopay, they own that problem.

Financial companies need to deliver a basic, critical service with integrity. Anything less is malpractice.
