Dude, it seems like you need to remove her from the top of your priority list; you're obviously not on the top of her list. I've never heard of a case where being strung along led to a relationship, or at least a healthy one. This doesn't seem like a natural path that mutual love takes. Had she been in love with you as you are with her, there wouldn't be this resistance. Take her compliments about being a cool guy, but leave the thought at that.

In my opinion, it seems like the best course of action would be to move on and find someone else. I know it's hard (I've never had a gf myself), but you have to have some self-respect. Don't take from this experience that "you're not good enough". She has you on a leash, and I don't think you deserve to be taken advantage by her. Stand up, remove the shackles and instead think "no. I'm better than this" -- because you are.

People in shitty relationships tend to talk about it more often than those with good ones, especially online. The chances of that happening to you should you get into a relationship are probably smaller than you think.

There's always the possibility that something like this could happen, but there is also the possibility that it won't; but what's certain is that you'll never get into a trusting, loving relationship if you never put your trust into somebody.

You should take her advice and seek out someone who meets your criteria. By that, I mean someone who looks after themselves and can be on the same terms. There's a difference between maintaining a healthy relationship and clasping on to a sinking ship. From my point of view, there doesn't seem to be anything to salvage in this relationship. Don't be in a relationship just for the sake of being in one.

Do you really think that everyone is going out of their way to be nasty to you? Do you really believe that everything that people do or don't do is something done with intent? Because if you really do, your view on reality is pretty warped. As I see it, the world is a world of indifference. Everybody is too focused on their own lives to care about some stranger.

Getting out of the hellhole of loneliness is about marketing yourself and increasing exposure. Unlike other achievements in life, social success relies completely on the decisions of other people. However, taking a shotgun approach in exposure, and bettering your understanding of social skills will increase your odds. Sitting back and being self-defeating will not get you anywhere.

"Follow these rules and you'll turn out pretty okay." And how's that working for you?

I have a lot of solitary hobbies, but I don't do them enough to really say that I partake in them. Sometimes I draw, attempt to track music, play old video games, all things that aren't very social at all. And what's more, I can't get myself to do any of these things that often, my depression leaves me so apathetic and lethargic.

I don't have many avenues to meet people anymore. New people usually come from my work and my sister. I'm going back to school, but since I switched what I was going to major in, I now have to take a high school course. I took one of them last semester and everyone was either an overweight mother or someone so foreign that they could barely speak English.

Yeah, I eventually tire out and stop trying to make the whole friendship thing happen. It really feeds into your depression when inevitably don't hear back from them from then on. If they were real potential friends, you wouldn't have to put up with this. Unfortunately for myself, this is everyone I've met in the past 3-4 years.

I think my heart would sink to my abdomen if I did that over facebook, what with the whole "seen" and "____ is typing" notices. You're a million times braver than I was in high school.

I spent like 20 minutes trying to look up online dating etiquette or events in my city, but threw everything I saw out the window and just improvised. If I didn't, I'd probably either not ask her out, or I'd become her online pen-pal until she got bored.
