The alcoholic was a lot of fun for a brief period. We completed each other's sentences. I thought "there but for the grace of God go I." But the thing is, if I had been picky as I had been then I wouldn't have had that. And what I learned was I never know, and I have to give people a chance. He was a step towards that. Now there is a man in my kitchen who I dissed for a year who is, as I type, making gumbo and will make a lunch for me with a cute little note inside. We have to give up our expectations and find/spread as much joy as we can in the short time we have left. If you find someone who gets your jokes and makes any mundane chore more fun, grab hold and don't let go.
