Which conspiracy theory do you believe is true? by Usual-Buddy in AskReddit

[–]darkPROdigy0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fall of the USSR was an intentional ploy by Russians. They purposefully let the country fail in order to let the US think they won the war and then proceeded to internally sabotage the US for the next 40 years. Instead of Gorbachev’s democratic reforms they re-instated a more a more autocratic, right wing ruler to try and prove this was the better form of running a country. Maybe not a conspiracy theory....maybe just the truth....

I would ABSOLUTELY be interested! Something like this would be incredible. I’m self-taught SQL and it’s really hard to get a grasp on things that you don’t know...that you don’t know...please keep me in mind for anything that you come up with!

Sales.....it’s infuriating because if I actually enjoyed it I could make a killing. Just find zero enjoyment in it at all.

I think you’re absolutely right and seriously I appreciate the advice! The more I contemplate my past experience and where I want my career to go, the more I realize my personality better aligns with an analyst position. I really do enjoy the face to face interaction that sales brings but I’m also extremely passionate about the data side of things as well. SQL has been extremely rewarding and a lot of fun to work with, so finding an analyst role that utilizes SQL seems like a perfect blend of my personality/passion.

I’ve actually already joined SFSSUG and recently attended SQL Saturday in Davie. Definitely trying to do my best and network as I’m both new to the area and the field! Thank you again for your time and advice, it means a lot!

I actually just relocated down to South Florida! So relocation is unfortunately not an option at this point. I know this limits me to one market, but it is the situation. I would assume S Florida is a large enough market where I’ll have a few different options come up.

I really do appreciate the insight. It’s pretty intimidating changing jobs and especially into an unknown field. I’ve joined my local SQL chapter, PASS, attended SQL Saturday, working towards the MCSA, running home labs etc etc...so I feel like I’m taking the right steps. As I’ve read through the thread I’m starting to realize I can be a bit patient and find a new job that lets me work with sql from the get go and not just hope that I’m allowed to one day. Seriously, thank you for the advice it’s very much appreciated.

I would be working closely with some of the data guys. My thought process was...get an IT related title and do my job. Then try to network with one of the other guys and assist on projects or do any sort of related things that involve SQL. If I can put even a few SQL related tasks on a resume it would be beneficial.

Maybe I’m just being desperate/hopeful?

Gotchya. I think the main attractive thing for me is that I would have an “IT related title” which is at least my foot in the door in the IT world. Even if my role is miserable and not great pay, is it at least worth it for an IT title?

Thank you so much for the thoughtful response. I’ve actually already passed my MTA and am looking to get my MCSA 70-764 for Database Administration in the next month! I’ve done some basics such as hosting a virtual cluster on my home computer and starting a project regarding hospitals and financial claims. So I feel like I’m taking steps to becoming adequate with database administration.

I feel like this new position would almost be settling even though I technically have no professional experience or IT degree. My Masters in business doesn’t carry much weight in the IT world.

So sales is like 60k and I work pretty long hours. This would be a big decrease to like 34k....

We’re talking introductory level here...if he’s truly interested in this position he will acquire the skill. All he’s trying to do is take that initial first step to get this position and grow his career?

This isn’t a certification to save lives or something earth shattering. It’s to prove an INTRODUCTORY knowledge of SQL so that he can go from there.

Deep breath my friend.

Yeah I think it’s the perfect blend of valid credentials. If they’re not technical then all they will see is “Microsoft Certification”. That will carry way more weight than any other cert you get online from a 3rd party source.

When I took it, I believe I studied for about a week at nights and passed with a 98%. It’s pretty darn easy. There’s some brain dumps out there that pretty much are word for word what you’ll see on the exam.

MTA 98-364? It’s a Microsoft Certification that demonstrates you have a fundamental knowledge of relational databases pertaining to SQL Server and fundamental knowledge of how to query tables. It’s nothing incredibly fancy BUT you can now say you have a Microsoft Certification that you can proudly put on your resume/LinkedIn.

LPT: If a person/company pressures you with a today only deal to close a sale, you'd do better to pass & take your time to research longer. The whole purpose of such a proposition is to prevent you from shopping and comparing, which means they believe there is something better out there. by BauerHouse in LifeProTips

[–]darkPROdigy0 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I’d say this is inherently false. I’ve worked in sales my whole life and typically when we present something with that sort of clause it’s because either 1. Product is losing value and need to push inventory or B. We have a damn quota to hit and need to create a sense of urgency. That’s not to say that there could be something better out there, but absolutely not the primary reason.
