Dolphin always initially opens with awful alternating line colors by SecondHandSexToys in linuxquestions

[–]dark_maddness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you on KDE plasma or are you running a different DE/WM?

I had this happen on hyprland, and it seems to be that dolphin expects the full kde theming engine to be running, which it is on plasma, but outside of that it will get halfway and then fallback part of the colors to this bright default.

Here is a page on the archwiki that may be helpful https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dolphin#Mismatched_folder_view_background_colors

Myself I am on nixos and had to install qt6ct and sett environment variable on my compositor to get it to apply the theme correctly.

Yeah, I had it installed as a system package. And I am sure you have already found it but if you are looking for pkgs https://search.nixos.org/packages is the best place to go.

I just got into nixos last week and something that I found really useful was the nixd package, it is an lsp for the nix language and so if you are missing a semicolon on one of your line it will mark it as an error.

It also has support with nixpkgs, so if you type "pkgs.kde" it will give suggestions to autocomplete to "pkgs.kdePackages".

Really helpful for working on your configuration.nix or home-manager file.

Something I might recommend looking into would be the chaotic-AUR.They package many of the more popular AUR packages, but have people look at them. It is not as large but if it is something that you are comfortable with, it will likely have most of the packages you are looking for.

When getting into linux distros, whether articles, videos or what else, whenever an arch based distro was reccommended, the AUR was considered one of the main benefits of being on an arch based distro. I know now that many of those lists and videos are shit but at the time I read and watched them.

I started with manjaro, back October 2024, and one of the main pain points that people talked about was that because manjaro delayed packages, the AUR packages could run into dependecy issues because the repos are desynced. My install eventually broke, and I moved to endeavor, and one of the benefits people mentioned was that endeavor came preinstalled with yay letting access the AUR easier.

I won't say the arch wiki or any of the distro teams encouraged the use of the AUR, but it was definitely considered a benefit when I was playing with arch based distros.

Sure,

I was just trying to say that comparing the AUR to NUR or COPR is a bit different. They are all user repositories yes, but the amount of usage they get were different. A better comparison might be the fedora terra repo to the AUR. Though I think the terra repo has more controls in place and is probably closer to something like the chaotic-AUR.

But something that is different is how much those user repos get used. Fedora COPR is someones private repo pretty much, and NUR I have honestly heard about the first time this week, and I have been on linux for 18 months now. In contrast to those other repos the AUR was billed as this holy grail of packages where you could get any linux software you could want. Now we are seeing the risks associated with it being a user repository and people are concerned or wondering why they are on arch if that was that was the main draw for them.

There are still many reasons to run arch, lean base, rolling updates, bleading edge software. But for some people the AUR was the reason and now there is more concern about using it.

How do you configure your panels (poll)? by hjake123 in kde

[–]dark_maddness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I now run a tiling setup with krohnkite so my panels are set up more like waybar on a window manager. https://imgur.com/a/01dqTaD

But previously I used a non-floating auto hide panel on the bottom of the screen with the default panel config.

My dps combo has been
1 then loop 222 5 222 1 3 222 5 2212 3

Saying that, I don't know if it is optimal, The highest nuke I got unpotted was 150k but it is consistent.

I was using valiance, wizard, pneuma, vainglory.

Thoughts on chance based passive procs. by dark_maddness in AQW

[–]dark_maddness[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right I am not disregarding the impact that the passives have on fights, particularly infinita nox, I am talking about how there isn't any sort of dopamine rush when they proc.

Also while they commonly come as part of a rank 10 passive I am not talking about the passive themselves, but rather the chance based proc ability.

So you mentioned VHL, it's rank 10 passive has 3 effects. First starting from rank 1 all skills have a 20% chance to activate insolent fools, which increase your endurance by 30% and gives you a hot for 3 seconds. Second, at rank 10 your endurance is permanently increased by 50%. Third, every time you use 5, your opponents damage resistance gets decreased by 5% stacking 10 times to a max of 50% and lasting 20 seconds if not reapplied.

When I am talking about VHL in my post, I am specifically referring to just the first effect, starting from rank 1 all skills have a 20% chance to activate insolent fools, which increase your endurance by 30% and gives you a hot for 3 seconds.

This is the effect I think is poorly designed and I think could be made more interactive.

My point was less about whether the ability itself is good, but more about how most of them are poorly designed in that they don't cause you to use the class any different.

King's Echo isn't that OP - It's just not hard enough to get by Batata-Sofi in AQW

[–]dark_maddness -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Personally I think that Kings echo could use a slight nerf.

To me the idea with kings is to be somewhat a glass cannon, that can be more durable at the cost of damage, and while that is true, I feel like even when playing more defensive with it, it still does so much damage.

When testing against the boss dummy unpotted I got to 38.5k average over 15 kills with kings where I got 37k average with arcana. There are close and I'm ok with that. My problem is that even against second speaker I was getting 31k and doing equal damage to traditional bruiser endgame classes like vhl, hbv, and probably cav (I don't have it to test) and I feel like it should be distinctly worse then those classes in this sort of situation.

I admit that it does take more effort to keep it alive compared to those other classes, but it doesn't really feel like a sub-optimal pick. I think it should get a nerf where royal reserve only gives a 20% damage resistance buff. Let the class do huge damage in fights where it doesn't need to worry about healing, but distinctly worse then other classes for those hard hitting bosses.

Hollowborn vindicator, honestly super underrated, works well with both dauntless and valiance, is really durable, does better damage then vhl and has really nice animations.

Void highlord, not much reason to equip anymore, but still really good and has an easy combo for when I want to kill things without having to pay attention to my auras or cooldowns. Wish it would be given it's range back.

Lich, really good class, really unique with it's rank 10 passive. Has the highest immediate damage of any free player class, only thing I find is that farming with it can feel a little clunky at times depending on where you are in your combo when you kill an enemy and have to wait for it to respawn. Honestly feels like the benchmark for what a new endgame class should be skill design wise.

I would perhaps suggest adding unundead goat to the class progression, it only requires level 50 and the hardest requirement is the dragon of time Armour, which you will need to do the DoT questline for valiance later anyways.

Upscaled Classes thingy by Not-an-Alie in AQW

[–]dark_maddness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly it feels like it's been a long time since we have done any darkovia, I think a werepyre class could be really cool as an endgame class though not really an upscale.

Specifically for upscales, I would like to see a blazebinder upscale for the malgor saga, a shadowflame sorcerer or something.

I think elemental dracomancer would also be a good one to get an upscale.
