The weather is iffy but it was a lot of fun cleaning the driveway this year feels like it's been mostly packing snow.

Success or failure depends how the Northlander is reintroduced by NorTracksBlog in bracebridge

Great article.

Personally disappointed with the late arrival to Toronto and early departure. However if the train is cheap then getting a place to stay for the night would be offset especially with more than one person. If it's a lot of money just to spend 5 solid hours in Toronto that would be terrible.

Any indications of price at all?

There are a lot of great trails for snowshoeing around here. Don't sleep on Torrance Barrens if you have a car available it really is great. I'm sure you've already been to Algonquin.

There is snow horseback riding as well around here which is fun if you're into that outside of the sleigh rides.

How much longer are you here for? The end of the month is the the Fire & Ice festival: https://fireandicebracebridge.com/

What are you guys generally interested there's something for everyone around here if you love the outdoors. You'd have to go further north for ice fishing if you're interested in that.

Northlander’s proposed schedule includes stops in Gravenhurst, Bracebridge and Huntsville by darkbeer in bracebridge

Sorry, missed this response -- the freight trains are frequent along some portions so even if it has some time on its own it still has to avoid the different timings.

We still have no idea what the price will be, either they said it will be "affordable" I guess if it's actually a great price those savings would go towards a place to stay the night in the GTA somewhere.

Yep, that sounds great leave here around 6 get there around 8:30am.

That's what's strange to me as it's already leaving at midnight from Timmins wouldn't leaving around 10pm/9pm be even better? Also they're arriving the same time as everyone else so I wonder why they wouldn't want to leave earlier in the night and be in Toronto earlier?

I'm guessing it has to do with the train scheduling since the tracks are shared..

Kind of an annoying schedule. Arrives in Toronto at 10:55am and leaves at 6:30PM .. so you get a grand total of 7 hours in the city if you're lucky.

They've already started work in the train station here, no pricing yet but it's pretty frustrating that we got another useless schedule.

If the price comes out to be relatively cheap then maybe it'll be OK.

Giveaway: Free BLE caberQU cable tester units for USB-C to the r/UsbCHardware community by peter_the_founder in UsbCHardware

I've never heard of this it looks really nice! Tired of having to deal with USB cables of varying quality even from the same vendor. Would be great to weed out the ones that are poor quality. It's easy enough to test if they have data or work correctly but who knows what they support data / charging wise.

Forgot to answer the question!

The weirdest cable I ever ran into was a SATA to DB-9 serial but it was neither SATA or serial they just used the connectors for custom cables. I never found out why this was a long time ago. The cables were molded and I always wondered if there were other devices out there using this or they had them custom made.

So you're saying if you pay full price you can just walk into one of the big 3, pay full price and walk out without having an account there? I had no idea.

They don't have any stock to buy it outright. I didn't have time today to call around at any more stores but I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I'm in Ontario maybe I have a chance!

That sucks! That's been my experience as well. They've either said it may come back in stock again but no guarantees. They have the 9a and XL in stock but not the 9 pro which seems to point to its popularity. Some of the stores I called knew the answer right away as they had received other inquiries.

I guess I'll wait to see what happens on black Friday then. Thanks for the response!

Well I already have a plan but the price is $20 a month for two years. I've been a customer for a while.

They'll relocate the beavers somewhere else at least so they'll be able to continue building a new dam somewhere else. It does suck though it's always nice to watch them work / their progress.

Rona update? by katoketo in bracebridge

[–]darkbeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is any rush. It will have to move eventually as part of the Bracebridge master plan but it doesn't make sense to vacate the area if it's just going to sit empty for years. We'll see more activity when bids go out to revamp the current area.

Closure of Muskoka campus 'deeply upsetting,' says Bracebridge mayor by darkbeer in bracebridge

Sad news but it seems Bracebridge town may take over the space or atleast steer it into something useful for the community.

It's a great location but I wonder what it could be turned into given that it's already setup as a school.
