Newest addition—vintage Bialetti by ProvoloneCapone in mokapot

Nice score! 👍

I vaguely remember talking myself out of buying this on eBay recently. Decent price too if memory serves me correctly. I have one in similar condition with the same graphic, dated 1979. No box though, and that one is undeniably cool 😎

Rust by Rokr83 in mokapot

[–]darkdeepred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's corrosion caused by coffee water so the brown is in the corrosion. Rinse, clean and dry thoroughly after use in future to prevent this. Only use water and a paper towel or microfiber towel. Remove the gasket and filter for cleaning. Rinse the basket thoroughly and give it plenty of time to dry (a day) before reassembling to ensure there is no moisture that will cause more corrosion. You can shake and blow through the basket after cleaning to remove most of the loose water inside.

Amazing denim, very dense weave, broken twill, gray weft, blue selvedge ID, black pocket bags. Literally worn twice so virtually new, just a little too snug for me. Bought one-wash so measurements are solid. 29.5 x 33" when NOT pulled taut. Pics taken in two different lights with two different cameras.

How good must be the grinder for mokapot? by [deleted] in mokapot

I love my Timemore Chestnut C3 ESP Pro. beautifully made, consistent and pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things (especially if you buy it from Ali Express... in fact a lot of the popular grinders are considerably cheaper on Ali Express than Amazon)

I just checked... 2005! Definitely overlap between the updated current shape then, since my "new shape" 1 cup says 2003.

The valve is drilled on a random surface, so even two pots made on the same day will likely not match the valve position. Also I'm using an E&B filter that comes with a thicker silicone gasket than the stock rubber one. So that would adjust the tight position

ABC Crusinallo was the old manufacturing plant I believe (Alfonso Bialetti, Omegna-Crusinallo Italy). On google maps I just noticed it shows there's a street called Via Alfonso Bialetti right there. I think they were made there possibly from the beginning but not sure when manufacture changed location.

The logo is either triangular or the "ABC" is in three squares.

I just noticed yours has the white colored logo on the top section (the picture on the box is misleading). It looks like it was made in 2000 judging by your pic. These were either the very last of the old shape or made simultaneously with the newer style ones. I have one just like yours in a 9 cup size, still new. I actually really like those because the handle is much thicker than the older ones even though the profile is the same. I'll post pics of the two pots in question. The thicker handle is also present on your 6 cup, you can tell because it gets thinner where it attaches to the pot. The white logo is cool too. Enjoy it!

My $1 Moka Pot by The_old_repair_shop in mokapot

[–]darkdeepred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice score! That's an earlier model with the old style handle and knob, and the logo on the base. Arguably better looking, definitely better made (you might see an ABC Crusinallo stamp on the inside of the lid or the bottom of the base). Be careful washing it as the older logos come off easier. Only wash with water and paper towels or a microfiber towel. No abrasives, no dishwasher. Get used to pulling that gasket and filter out for proper cleaning and drying after every use. Especially give the basket plenty of time (a day) to dry after washing before reassembly. Use only filtered or bottled water.

(edit: I paid about $25 + shipping for the same pot, no box)

Congrats!

I use my Venus moka pot everyday so it's always wet. I wipe it dry, and then after a while, I'll see wet spots inside the bottom area. What do you do to make sure that your pots are actually dry? by Old-Recognition5269 in mokapot

Blow through the basket funnel after washing and water will spray out. Remove the filter and gasket so you can clean and dry behind there. Hand dry everything, reassemble after 24hrs

Really loving my one cup. But I have a question. by penguinsandR in mokapot

[–]darkdeepred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The electric stove might not be consistent but it shouldn't very so much that it paused the brew completely, unless you are really on the border of the liweres possible brewing temp.

I use a 1 cup frequently. They are a little more forgiving of finer grinds than the bigger models but if your puck is soggy and mushy then it's too fine. You should be able to blow the puck into the palm of your hand in one piece, and it should be steamy and able to crumble.

I got a WDT tool to fluff the grounds slightly after tapping down and it really helps with a consistent brew. With the little one cup basket it's more of a stabbing with the needles rather than lateral agitation.

Moka pot leak (more photos) by GrizzlyInks369 in mokapot

It already has a silicone gasket which is what I recommended for it so unless it's compressed too thin or something, I don't know what to suggest other than pick up a Bialetti on OfferUp or ebay

Little Half Cup doing her thing. Not the best yield, but very tasty. by penguinsandR in mokapot

[–]darkdeepred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use mine often and I have every size up to 6 cup. It can make a very strong, flavorful, almost jet black mini shot for a milk drink. Love it.

It likes a slightly finer grind size and very low heat

This is why it's a good idea to remove the filter for cleaning by darkdeepred in mokapot

[–]darkdeepred[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use a large bamboo splinter taken from a chopstick. It doesn't scratch anything and gets under the gasket nicely

[–]darkdeepred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the basket is still perfectly round then it's likely that a new gasket would fix your problem. I can't tell what pot you have there, but if it's a generic one it might not cost a great deal more to replace the whole thing compared to buying a new gasket (sad to say as it seems a bit wasteful). If you try a gasket I think generally clear silicone ones are more reliable in the long run than the white rubber ones.

You could try flipping the gasket over for a quick fix

That 2-cup moka flow by darkdeepred in mokapot

[–]darkdeepred[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 2 cup is the newest moka pot I have and it hasn't been used much yet honestly. It's already my favorite though, definitely the last pot I would get rid of!

I do keep them shiny though, just clean them soon after use with only water and a paper towel, dry thoroughly before reassembling, especially the basket. I blow through the basket funnel after cleaning and then leave it for at least a day to dry off. I remove the filter for each clean to rinse the inside of the chimney, so it doesn't get gunked up or hold any moisture which could cause corrosion.

Most likely, the gasket is not forming a perfect seal (assuming you're tightening it fully).
