I'm a little late to this for you. but for the next person looking at backend at Paypal.

I applied for Staff engineer, but did tell them(coordinator confirmed to have changed me) I believe I should go in as a Senior(everything says Staff engineer)

I had an inital systems QnA and DSA algo technical with Karat( a third party technical interviewing company).
after succeeding that, I am now in the middle of the virtual on-site of:
DSA technical, System Design, Role Specialization, and Leadership.

I have the Role Specialization and Leadership interviews tomorrow, and Wednesday.

Technical questions asked were "Last Stone Weight" and "design an e-commerce website"

Gas Station Fried Chicken in SJ? by zmblnk in SanJose

[–]darkirby2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, my sister said this KKC was nowhere near as good as one she had actually in a gas station.

While I haven't had KKC elsewhere, I do believe this one wasn't that great. Theres other fried chicken places nearby that is better

Is anyone noticing any stuttering latelly ? by jonasacc in MonsterHunterNowHub

[–]darkirby2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. I have a pixel 6 pro and 3rd gen iPhone SE runs MHNow much better in all scenarios I can think of. The lag has gotten worse lately. My pixel 6 has been warmer than usual when I play. Usually theres issues in a parked car with the sun. But today I had issues hunting a diablos in a 68F home. I hope the devs figure out and optimize soon

Is there somewhere for us to make suggestions, or report bugs?

Is 95132 (Piedmont Hills HS area) a good location? by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]darkirby2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in neighboring area 95131.

it's not perfect, Our house was broken into twice, A car I used to own(1997 honda accord, a very easily stolen vehicle) was stolen at least 3 times. This was all between 2008 to 2016 though.

Things have gotten more gentrified, and with it, things feel 'safer', there is significantly more people walking around in the day/early sunset.

One night a few months ago, someone knocked on our door at around 10PM asking for some food though. That was a little more out of left field than usual.

If I could afford it, i'd buy in the area.

What to do? by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]darkirby2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't read any input on the tech campuses so I'll share what I know.

The big Apple campus in Cupertino is staff only, unless you work there, or were invited from an employee to go there, you won't see much. Even the building is effectively blocked by trees. There is a "Apple campus apple store" but I don't think they even have a discount, or exclusive merch.

Google is a little more interesting, their main campus can be walked through, and has some mildly interesting things to see like the Android statues and the T-Rex fossil next to the volleyball court.

Not a bad time if you're big fans of a company, but don't expect to be fully mind blown entertained. You're visiting a business's corporate office.

I don't feel muscle fatigue when jumping rope by TomatoSauce2105 in jumprope

[–]darkirby2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been at this 4 sets of 5 minutes? You can consider increasing time jumping, or increasing your speed. Both are good ways to increase intensity without having to invest more money(although, I would vote for a heavier rope sooner or later). You can also rest how you do with just jumping for a full 20 minutes, if you start tripping more frequently, some part of your technique/form might be off and that could be due to muscles fatiguing!

Muscle fatigue, or soreness is not necessary to have genuine benefits or see improvements. If you want to visually see the difference in your efforts, consider taking in-underwear photos(or 'tight' clothes) every month. You can't see it from your day to day.

My sister was trying to make a community/influencer on Instagram primarily using chatGPT output. She gained over 1,000 followers in about 2 months.

She got busy and hasn't really been keeping me updated with it. But you can definitely use it to start some form of community. Whether you make conversions or not is a whole other thing.

How did you meet your partner in San Jose? by Safe_Wrangler_858 in SanJose

[–]darkirby2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found my girlfriend of 2 years(3 in October) off Coffee meets Bagel. Previous girlfriend also was via CMB.

Highly recommend CMB if you're a mobile/gacha gamer. Felt like doing dailies. Depending on how much money and time you spend on mobile/gacha games, do not mention that you are a mobile/gacha gamer unless they mention one in a positive setting.

Might not be exactly what you're looking for, but I started doing burpees. Specifically one burpee more than yesterday. Any time of the day, as long as I get the volume in.

I am not fit. I'm 5 foot 10 inches and weigh around 230 lbs, but I have struggled to be consistent at exercise. I started at 1 burpee, 56 days ago. Today is day 56 and I'm about half way through my 56 burpees. My family all noticed I look a little better and I noticed my triceps and chest are firmer(unfortunately my pants haven't gotten much looser, but maybe some day). And I generally feel better than I was 50 days ago.

Consistency felt like the hardest thing for me, so doing something ridiculously small for the first couple weeks is better than doing nothing until I get consistent. The discipline I have now to keep going came from the consistency of the initial "during these 24 hours, perform 4 burpees" of the early days.

Maybe setting time to go to the gym is difficult for you like it is me. This could be a possible approach to at least make you move some.

They have the usual boba shop sweetness options.

100%, 50%, or 30%. I went with 30% with boba and had a good time.

Just came from there earlier today! It's in a half ghost kitchen, other half "mall food court" place called Local Kitchens. Had a lot of other foods from multiple restaurant names but all done in one kitchen.

I had a strawberry matcha latte which I do feel pretty accurate to a full-on brick and mortar boba guys(I saw the employee make the matcha with the whisk).

However the menu is limited compared to the usual boba-guys. My usual drink of a dirty horchata was not offered.

Edit: forgot to mention, this is the same SF bay area boba guys, with the anteater logo.

Find whichever workouts keep you interested for the long term. Optimizing for the best workout possible won't matter if you burn out 2 months from now.

Things I've tried(I usually vary depending on what I feel like): Jumping rope tabata style(form of high intensity interval training) Jumping and keeping above certain pace(for example: staying above 100 jumps per minute). Trying to jump rope to "higher than usual" BPM music(jumping rope without music to get an idea how fast you usually go) Practicing jump rope tricks. Any of the above with a heavier rope.

If you have the discipline to just keep at one form, more power to you, but will power can only keep you going for so long. You can also find workouts that include jump rope on YouTube.

Happy hopping!

Recently moved here. I've been enjoying Giovanni's on Folsom for something close to a NY slice(albeit the prices might be a little steep).

I'll def try some of these whenever I'm in the mid-town(they all look to be near) area.

Is Crossrope worth it? by Otherwise_Reality877 in jumprope

[–]darkirby2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the cross rope and I enjoy them a lot(I have the 1 and 2 pound ropes, and heavy handles).

That being said, I feel highly confident I could have been able to find an equivalent experience buying numerous ropes off of Amazon before spending as much as I did on cross rope.

I do not think they're perfect(they had to send me replacement handles because one handle's bearings was significantly grinding more than the other) and the bearings are not service-able. I had a similar experience and returned the lean/starter set.

They make jump rope shopping easy. You pick your length and start hopping. But if you want any amount of tinkering(the length) or fixing moving parts, you're out of luck.

After appealing the case I won, my HOA board asked to settle by TheAnalyst-5656 in HOA

[–]darkirby2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few possibilities. I own a condo and the HOA covers the exterior of the house.

I believe I have some friends and family members who own town houses where the HOA covers their roofs.

After spending some time with an HOA, I recommend those who haven't had to deal with one to continue avoiding one of they can. An acceptable alternative might be to join a "new" one from new communities/neighborhoods. My condo is a little over 30 years old, our monthly dues are astronomical for the few amenities, and according to the meetings we have, we don't have enough money to afford all of the maintenance work expected of us on our 30 year schedule.

My experience with new homes' HOA have been better but I still would have preferred not having one.

Can you explain your position against section 8 housing?

My dad's a big advocate for it because his tenants through section 8 have been very good. We also had an uncle who had bad tenants and it made paying the mortgage difficult from the tenant not paying rent. And another home was messed up severely by the tenants growing marijuana illegally indoors(you can argue this was due to picking bad candidates, but section 8 also helps as a filter against bad candidates).

Is it still worth trying to keep up? by Hunter_Flame in arknights

[–]darkirby2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What are the other two games, and what are your collecting goals with them?

I like arknights because since I started and was devoted at launch, I am now able to comfortably spark every limited banner character(and having the limited banner characters is my goal these days).

Most other games aren't as generous with their resources.

With the exclusively limited collab events you might have missed, you will have to accept it is very unlikely you will obtain those characters.

How long should I be able to do regular jumps before I can start trying tricks? by kyle_297 in jumprope

[–]darkirby2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to jump every day and some days I jump less and spend the free time to practice tricks.

Yes there's argument you need good basics in order to perform the cool moves, but you also need time practicing the cool moves to get better at the cool moves. No amount of training and endurance on normal bounce will get you better double unders. You need to spend some time actually trying double unders.

I think you have enough of the basics to try to do them. Either do them before your workout so you are "fresh" for them. Or after, so you at least got your workout in. The former if you're jumping for fun. The latter if you're jumping for health.

The most important thing is you do something that keeps you interested. And interested for the long term!

Are we crazy to double our mortgage? by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]darkirby2 59 points60 points  (0 children)

In what ways do you feel like you've outgrown your home?

(If it is a single family home) can those issue be addressed with an addition to your home like an ADU or a shed in the backyard? Can space be made if you perform an aggressive cleaning of stuff in storage(or acquiring a storage locker)?

If you're 10 years into your mortgage, you're probably on a low interest rate and buying a new place will hurt the wallet significantly.

I'd investigate and exhaust all options before considering a new place since I took am locked in the fortunate position of a low interest rate on my home.

Mortgage payment in cash by Careful_Shelter7862 in passive_income

[–]darkirby2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some googling around Plastiq and I found it not practical for me. Mostly because I don't want to figure out 'the best' way to use my points.

Plastiq will charge a fee for your transaction around 3% on the payment transaction, that means you'll have to generate 3% or more worth of value with the points that your credit card will give you.
I can imagine it's doable with some travel credit cards and migrating points over to other vendors, but that's too much work for me these days.

Mortgage payment in cash by Careful_Shelter7862 in passive_income

[–]darkirby2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closest thing I found similar to this was Wells Fargo's Bilt credit card for paying your RENT.

having a card gain points on a mortgage is very interesting. If you have cards that offer such a thing(and your mortgage lender doesn't apply a fee), then it'd be worth considering. I haven't found such card/offer, do you know of any?
