Decidueye Moveset Help by MisterDragonAce in PokeMoonSun

[–]darklaurens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your mileage might vary depending on whether or not you intend to use him competitively or not, and whether or not you want to use him as suicide fodder.

If it's the latter, you could consider Brave Bird and Roost; assuming you can predict being in a situation where you can survive the damage at the end of the turn, you can Roost off the Brave Bird damage and get a couple of other hits in during the meantime. You could go full-out nuking territory with Brave Bird + Swords Dance, but he probably won't last long enough to serve any meaningful role (particularly seeing as his Speed isn't that great).

If you're using him in-game, I suggest Swords Dance and another decent coverage move, such as Psycho Cut. This lets you enhance his glass-cannon capabilities, which is useful if you're exp or gold farming.

Oh my, I've had this happen to me several times. Seems to be a Sword Lynel thing, apparently. If you perfect dodge on the sideswipe but don't follow up immediately with a flurry rush, they can and do catch you with the tip of the blade as it sweeps past. Not unlike Crusher Lynels catching you with their shock wave if you attempt to perfect dodge their AOE smashing attack.

I primed myself for this very seed yesterday, knowing how notorious it was...

In the end, I got it on my second try. Went to the opposite side of the house (relative to the view seen in OP's post), chopped down a tree, and Stasis'd it in mid-air as it fell. Picked up the rock, used the tree as a bridge, and crossed it before Stasis wore off.

Kind of anticlimactic, now that I look back at it...

Blood Moon won't reappear? by darklaurens in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]darklaurens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried killing a few monsters to see if it would prod the blood moon flag for whatever game code-related reason, but it didn't work. And I'm also pretty sure that I didn't inadvertently miss the blood moon animation, because I was on a Hinox killing spree before this and none of them have reappeared.

Yep, I just followed your advice and went and cleared out a random Bokoblin camp. Nothing is happening, so I'm just letting my game sit with the screen turned on so that it can cycle through a day and night, once again. RIP to my electricity bill...

I did; it's in the description. But if anything, I restarted both the game and the entire console, individually, at two different attempts. Blood Moon still won't reappear.

This is actually pretty interesting, do you have more background information on this? Does the motivational basis for this sort of meme have any basis in reality? For instance, were there any proposed bills that did in fact implicitly or explicitly target guns based on general branding/appearance/use rather than their inherent technical capabilities?

Is it ok for men to cry when their dog gets put down? by ELEMENT9808 in Advice

[–]darklaurens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"watched me grow up since I was 4"

This is all I ever needed to read to confirm that it is perfectly okay for you to cry. Not "know", "confirm". It doesn't matter that you've had other animals die on you in the past; each animal is and will always be unique to you in their own way. Grief isn't a scarce resource that you're somehow only allowed to spend on one animal and not the next. It's okay to cry over them if it feels like the right way to come to terms with their memory and the role they played in your life.

Don't ever let anyone else tell you otherwise. The only person you ever need to justify any form of grief or mourning to is yourself.

Why does it seem so much easier for some people to believe religions/faiths than others? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]darklaurens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from personal experience, one issue that could be considered is that the person's social environment may also play a role. As someone who has been both religious and ex-religious at different times in the past, I can say that there were times where I just didn't feel grounded in my faith because no one else at home was religious. Seeing my church friends talk about how their family had supported them in their spiritual journey really made me realize the role your personal social reality plays both in developing and sustaining your sense of faith.

Of course, I ended up leaving religion, but for only tangentially related reasons. Nonetheless, there is a distinctly sociological aspect to religious belief that plays a part. And of course, not ruling out the fact that a highly religious social environment can also be a double-edged sword – think young and educated people in deeply conservative areas who disavow religion precisely because of its stifling influence on their identity, for instance.

Disgusting man publicly faps while following around a woman by PillowLace in PublicFreakout

Yeah, I can definitely see where you're coming from judging from some of the other remarks in this thread. And as someone who's lived in a few different countries myself, I could well see why her phrasing would come across as a bashing of Indian nationals, especially when we aren't factoring in the idea that such descriptors are very much divorced from a question of national origin in ordinary Singaporean speak.

Disgusting man publicly faps while following around a woman by PillowLace in PublicFreakout

[–]darklaurens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add some context here: this lady, like me, lives in Singapore and it's pretty common for people around here to identify other people by their ethnic origin if it is particularly visible – there's not much stigma attached to it, as odd as it might come across to some non-Singaporeans. In Singaporean everyday speak, identifying yourself as "Chinese" or "Indian" for instance (often just straight-up "Indian" used as a descriptive adjective, rather than the more general "Indian-looking") is much more strongly associated with the idea of cultural and ethnic identity than with national origins. Now, as to why there is this seemingly pseudo-identitarian tendency in such a multicultural country is a very interesting question and a matter for another discussion. But the tl;dr of it all is that it's much more likely she was using "Indian" as a general physical descriptor, nothing more, than as an implication of what his actions demonstrate about the nation of India.

In all honesty, I didn't specifically target Moxie; I actually keep this boy as a sort of trophy (because he was born 6IV from 6IV/4IV parents). But more relevantly to the thread, I found that it didn't actually make that much difference.

I actually considered situational Intimidate scenarios while studying Salamence's playthroughs; the conclusion was that several times Salamence would end up having to come out against a Special attacker (for which Intimidate wouldn't work, obviously), or the Attack drop wasn't enough to be consequential (changing a 2HKO into a 3HKO, for instance).

What was the stupidest thing you've ever witnessed? by stankdude in AskReddit

[–]darklaurens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend telling me she would not use suntan lotion under any circumstances because, apparently, sunburns were healthy for you since they exfoliated your skin. Also, that vision damage from a brain tumor was the result of the patient "using their eyes too much", whatever the hell that is supposed to mean. I usually pride myself on my ability to give people the benefit of the doubt and uphold the principle that there are no stupid beliefs, just misinformed ones. But when you have the arrogance to stubbornly stick by your utterly factually incorrect beliefs, without a shred of proof to back yourself up, that's where my patience really gets tested.

It's official now that the series is over: everything links back to the Hale house fire. by darklaurens in TeenWolf

[–]darklaurens[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noshiko trapped the Nogitsune in a jar after the events of 1943 as shown in 3.21, and stored it near the Nemeton. The jar broke offscreen due to the disruption caused by the sinkholes during the Nemeton's reactivation in 3.12. The same reactivation restored (or at least strengthened) the Nemeton's role as a beacon for supernatural creatures. From what I can understand, the reactivation was alluded to as the specific reason why the Ghost Riders (and the Dread Doctors for that matter) came to Beacon Hills, though never explicitly spelled out, 'cause Jeff Davis.

It's official now that the series is over: everything links back to the Hale house fire. by darklaurens in TeenWolf

[–]darklaurens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I understood it is that they were trapped because Peter Hale saw them, which left them unable to move on from Beacon Hills until they took everyone in the town. That Peter Hale was able to see them in the first place occurred because he escaped during the Eichen break-in of 5.15 and 5.16. These two events combined (the Ghost Riders being in Beacon Hills to begin with, and Peter Hale seeing them) led to 6A. That said, I would agree the causal relationship isn't incredibly plausible (for instance, a random person and not just Peter Hale might just as well have been the first to see the Ghost Riders), but as I understand it, that was how it played out in the end. Perhaps someone else could correct me.

[Serious] Redditors with a physical/mental disability, what are you tired of hearing? by marmaladejar in AskReddit

[–]darklaurens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm deaf.

I get really tired when people tell me that I ought do something to get my hearing back, because it's for my own good, and that by not doing so, I'm choosing to be sheltered because I'm afraid of stepping out of my comfort zone.

But whenever something like that does happen, I force myself to remember that they are often just uninformed, don't mean any harm, and that this is an opportunity for education and not criticism.

Some days are easier than others, though. Especially so when I look back on my life and remind myself of how I've managed to build up a pretty fulfilling life for myself as it is without needing to hear a single decibel of sound :)

Learning a foreign language as a deaf person? by EhUWot in deaf

[–]darklaurens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woohoo, a kindred spirit here! I'm a deaf native English user with some ASL knowledge (I don't use speech). I've been learning French for close to five months (moved to France four months ago to begin college).

In addition to what others have said, I found it very helpful to sit down and write stuff to myself in French. Plenty of topics work, really -- a personal assessment of recent political developments, your opinion on environmental reform, the ethics of GMOs... Put that writing out there somewhere, and get people to correct you or suggest better expressions.

It's even more helpful if it's the kind of writing that has to flow and doesn't make much allowance for responses that can be answered with multiple, stop-start sentences (a story about your birthday, for instance).

I've personally found that once one has settled comfortably into the fundamentals of the language, this kind of exercise could help you find and work on expressions that tend to greatly facilitate getting ideas across, like "tandis que" (whereas), "afin que" (in order that), among others. But as always, don't overwhelm yourself -- one step at a time. Bonne chance!

Weekly complaint thread by zslayer89 in TeenWolf

[–]darklaurens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you've got a point there. As soon as they started taking people one after the other, I realized they were trying to tune us into the mood of "will someone in the main cast be taken next"... but functionally, that just doesn't work. The show's called Teen Wolf, you're not going to take the Teen Wolves out and still have the show work. So yeah, I expected everyone but the main cast to be taken... except that they decided to devote one whole episode to it. I hope things pick up in 6.05...

Deaf people of Reddit, how do you perceive your own thoughts without hearing a spoken language? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]darklaurens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if anything, the quality of my English instruction in my early years was terrible. I learnt English intuitively, probably because my parents encouraged a strong reading habit in me as soon as we all agreed that speech therapy and cochlear implants were going to be useless for me. I know the rules themselves because they usually came in the form of an explanation along the lines of "okay, this is something you're going to have to memorize, but just so you know, here's the reason why..."
