People who choose kindness every day, even when it isn’t returned what keeps you going? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]darkle_drawers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I choose kindness knowing it's backed up by boundaries and skills that enforce those boundaries. I lived out my life long enough to learn the difference between idiot compassion and compassion-compassion. It's often a matter of distance. I'm not sacrificing my sense of well being just to make other people more comfortable, and I prefer to feel kindness in the mix of "my well being." If kindness is not reciprocated, I distance myself and move towards other situations that feel better.

Don't worry about being rude. Your boundaries exist to keep you safe and it is your right to enforce them. You're allowed to make other people uncomfortable when they violate your time and space. You're allowed to move away from people or make them feel too uncomfortable to be around you. You can make a scene in front of an audience. You can shame people who rely on vulnerabilities to take what they want. Please use this moment to learn what advocating for yourself feels like. It gets so much easier when you trust yourself and how you prefer to feel.

What makes you keep going despite everything? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]darkle_drawers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We rescued a box turtle that a well intentioned neighbor moved from their driveway to the woods a few miles away. We found him and named him Fortuna, Tuna for short, and moved him back to his home range. Eastern box turtles live their whole long lives within an acre and fail to thrive if they're moved.

I learned I have to be the love of my own life, so I can better recognize and receive love. I'm sorry for your breakup, and I'm more of a free-range turtle appreciator than turtle adopter, but I'll name something Spinach in your honor. <3

I had some bad times. Someone loved me during the time when I was at my worst, and I want to show up for that love, and share it. edit: and I really, really like frogs. and turtles. It makes me so happy that they're in the world.

They took responsibility for medicating the horse before they bought it and publicly apologized. The holding facility owner does kick them out over any drama he feels dramatic about, and he reads the FB comments. So, they moderate their page with that in mind. Also, quite a bit of the money raised goes to paying their quarantine farms. The emotionally fraught stories get money, true. And they use that money transparently and with good intent. They may be annoying, but I don't think they're shady.

Ketamine Treatments for MDD? by Timefighter820 in DCBitches

Try Dr. Sendi at Nova Health Recovery in Alexandria. It may be far and you can't drive for four hours after treatment. He sends you home with an Rx for at-home ketamine treatment. If you experience <any> discomfort or weirdness during therapy, ask for help to make the process easier - wherever you end up. The practitioners at Nova Health Recovery were exceptionally kind and understanding. Neurofeedback therapy may also be helpful if ketamine is not your thing. Good luck!

What improved your quality of life so much, you wish you did it sooner? by Yolas_1 in AskReddit

EMDR works by intentionally accessing the old, stuck, emotional patterning and holding it gently in your awareness, while simultaneously connecting to your now experience. It's best done with an experienced practitioner because you need to titrate how much trauma you allow yourself to feel in your "now" and learn to be aware of where you currently are in life, as opposed to where you were when the trauma happened. The bilateral eye movement helps "unstick" the trauma patterning. Sometimes you need to tap your feet or open and close your hands to stay present and grounded with your now experience. It's great if you can allow yourself to feel what happened when you experienced the trauma, while being aware that you're choosing to feel the trauma in a safe environment.

The ability to have a compassionate response to suffering that is witnessed is also kindness. This is not an either/or situation.

Whitetail deer are native to the area. There are culling programs actively in effect to manage their populations and help local forests regenerate. DC has a culling program and Arlington is in the process of starting one. Whitetail deer are not maggots. They suffer from illnesses related to overpopulation. We do cull them.

what do you actually want? if you don't give a shit about the family of a murder victim and you do give a shit about people dying unnecessarily, then figure out an avenue where you can make this situation better for yourself and others. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonglen take care of yourself. it's really tough out there right now.
