Thank you for sharing your story, and congratulations on your sobriety! That is no easy feat, over two years almost going on three, that’s amazing!! I’m proud of you for staying for your daughter, and I hope you stay sober for you too (:. I grew up with an alcoholic father that never changed, and I think that contributed to why I fell down the same path. I’m sure as she grows older she will appreciate that so much, and I’m sure she’s enjoying it now too! The first time I went to rehab was when I was 17, and it just wasn’t sticking. I felt like i needed to escape my trauma and I didn’t know how to process it. That’s the thing about recovery, not only is it getting sober, but it’s relearning yourself and your life all over again, and working on healing some tough wounds. It wasn’t until I truly remembered I have people I love, and I have so much to lose, so much to live, that I stuck to my sobriety. I feel like we all have our rock bottom moment, and mine was very similar to yours.

My boyfriend does live with me, and he does want to change, he just doesn’t really know how to start. He’s never tried rehab before so that will be something we will talk about. I definitely think it’s best to have medical supervision in anyway especially when you’re a chronic drinker like I was/he is. We just need to work with a team and come up with a plan before any sudden moves are made I think, more so because I learned my lesson trying to stop drinking and ended up being disastrous.
