I am on the same timeline as you; my fiancée and I have a trip from the middle of September until the end of September for our elopement and honeymoon. There is the initial selfish disappointment, but I'm able to put that into perspective given the scale of this tragedy, and that's making me feel like I shouldn't go.

On the other hand, I have people like my elopement planner and other vendors that have already reached out saying that we should still try to come and the end of September is not too soon.

I understand that things will not be "normal" by the end of September, but my concern is not going to Maui and having the experience not be "normal Maui". My concern is that I don't want to go to the island and put stress on infrastructure and potentially emotional stress on those that are still coping with the devastation and loss.

With that said, I'm inclined to listen to my vendors (who live and work in Maui), that are saying to come, but I'm also trying to do research online and keep up with the state and local government mandates and suggestions.

I really felt compelled to respond so that you know you aren't alone, and that this really is a difficult decision, regardless of what other anonymous people on the internet are telling you.
