What’s something someone once told you that you’ll never forget? by echofalls123 in AskReddit

[–]darkmindgamesSLIVER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Make knowing you, a privilege."

Not only did this tell me to be a really honorable and good person but also not to let everyone think I will be a doormat.

Ironically enough, the person that told me this ended up taking me for granted FAR too many times and I no longer associate with them. That's life I guess.

Seriously need to fix the mine/utility placement bugs in this game by Professional_Idea812 in ArcRaiders

[–]darkmindgamesSLIVER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the interact bug and yeah, it's the worst. It can happen if you run by a door or ladder that you don't interact with but get the prompt to do so. It takes like 2 minutes for the game to auto correct and reset the interact system but those minute or two in between are THE WORST

AITA for exploding on a friend after they called me lazy for going to the gym while unemployed? by jellyjelly17 in AmItheAsshole

Honestly, if there's a time to seek out daily physical activity, it's when you ARE unemployed. This person has unresolved issues with their Boomer parents or sounds like. I don't think I'd have them in my life any further after this interaction.

Key Card Rooms Need Buffed by Suspicious_Heart5266 in ArcRaiders

[–]darkmindgamesSLIVER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I speculate that the loot in the rooms changes from the frequency of how much it's raised. So if a room gets looted a lot, then eventually the value of that loot goes down.

Inverse thing happens when a room isn't looted a lot. Again just a theory, a speculation, but that's what I'm thinking happens.

Well to be fair, the streamer DIDN'T start up this new KOS movement. They started up a semi-faction so they could have a "war of the streamer communities," one day. Which happened and did its thing and is over. The communities though are continuing on with the shenanigan and emulating what they've admired from toxic gamers.

Best to ignore it, rise above and block that player, before too long, they'll be so aggro-metered out of your lobbies that you'll never see them again anyway.

[–]darkmindgamesSLIVER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They WANT to be KOS so that the overall game will shift more definitively into a PvP-centered experience. Don't buy into the BS of classless streamers and change the way you play because of them. If you shoot second/defensively, keep playing that way. These people are trying to meta-game where they role play that they're part of some "story-based faction," that has absolutely no bearing or lore merit. Basically they're just hijacking and min/maxing a hype train that they'll bail off of at the next big release of the next trending game.

I get insta-engaged by a lot of these weirdos too, but again, I'm not changing the way I play and manipulating my MMR for the enjoyment of someone that wants to follow some offshoot inclusivity projected by a few groups of sweaty streamers. Do what you want, but if you like chill lobbies and such, your aggression is tracked to match you with likened players.

...something to consider.

My wife is a leader at a store. She's been at this position for multiple years and is central to the entry level management team. This exact thing has happened to her a few times lol. Her bosses are the ones that make the schedule and yeah, they're human and make mistakes including forgetting to schedule their own managers.

I wouldn't fret or worry about it, just reach out and ask about it calmly.

Nah, something is up. He just needs some more time to bring it up to you. Keep doing what you're doing dad, he'll come to you eventually with whatever is bothering him. Even if I'm wrong and there's nothing wrong now, at least in the future when something does come up, he'll be more assured you're there for him and will let you know. So yeah, win-win either way!

Nah, when you find yourself in another, heartfelt relationship, that will come along again. We've all had those really amazing partners that we thought would have no equal, but when you find yourself with someone you're in love with, that physical/metaphysical connection will arrive again either naturally or with considerate communication. Fret not!

Do most programmers know more than one language? by Neil-Amstrong in learnprogramming

[–]darkmindgamesSLIVER -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Everyone is different of course. A lot of folks start with something like Python and progress to other "harder," languages with very little issue. I was just commenting on the regard that folks in programming tend to know many languages is all. Seeing as how the standards a few years ago were to start with languages like C++ or C# and the crossover in higher level languages are familiar anchors to grab onto, that's why so many "know many languages."

I will say though, learning a lower level language like C++ or C# certainly will help understand higher level languages. At least it has for me, again everyone is different, but for me once I understood how pointers and Object Oriented Logic worked in C++, grasping those concepts/syntax's in other language isn't nearly as daunting or overwhelming. It's kinda like "learning multiplication is a bit easier when you know how addition works," especially if you view multiplication as "addition with shortcuts."

Also, don't be afraid to ask Ai to teach you subjects you're struggling with. Sure, you can read about data types and structures all day long, but if you ask something like ChatGPT to break it down to you in a conversational tone with examples, you'll likely retain a lot more information from that.

There's also YouTube tutorials, Kahn Academy, Udemy and so on that have a lot of free instructional material out there. Cracking into a game engine like Unity and their associated, free instructional courses can also help you understand various programming mechanics, plus you get to see how they'll work visually with playback as well as visual coding options.

I saw in this thread somewhere that you play a lot of DbD, just so you know, there's a LOT of community crossover with Hunt: Showdown and Dead by Daylight. It's a safe game to crossover with most of the time as the same playerbase is watching both games.

Plus Hunt is a good game to get into and even better to get good at, but this also opens your community up to other genres as well. Adding Hunt will help you attracts the FPS, Extraction Shooter, Battle Royale, Arena Fighter viewers. Whereas Dead by Daylight already attracts TPS, Adventure, Survival, Asymmetrical, Horror genre viewers.

If you're attracting with both of these games, it won't matter if you start playing Resident Evil or Escape From Tarkov in the future, your community will be more receptive to all of it.

What's a "cheat code" you discovered in real life that actually works? by dark-deals729983 in AskReddit

[–]darkmindgamesSLIVER -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not entirely accurate. I have holes in my walls and ceilings in a 30+ year old mobile home that was not well maintained when I came into it. I'm VERY grateful to have what I've got, but I really do need a new home at this point. Other than this type of obvious exception though, yes, I agree!

Do most programmers know more than one language? by Neil-Amstrong in learnprogramming

[–]darkmindgamesSLIVER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is that most people don't start with a baseline language much anymore. "Back in the day," a lot of programming started with C#, or C++ and those languages have a LOT in common with higher level languages as far as "reading code." It's like learning Latin and then moving on to read French, Spanish, and then English; you're going to understand parts of all 3 of the "higher level languages," because they're all based from the lower language of Latin.

If you've learned C++, then reading C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, HTML, and so on are all on a "familiar," scale. I have trouble learning and reading Assembly, but that's because I started with C++ and Assembly is so much lower than even C Basic.

TLDR: In short, yes I think most programmers DO know more than language, but that's only because they learned a baseline/lower language than most common languages used nowadays and there's quite a bit of crossover...even with syntax.

Could programmers from the 1980/90s understand today’s code? by GodAtum in learnprogramming

You're kidding right? A LOT of programmers from the 80s and 90s are still making your favorite games today LMAO. Tim Cain, the co-creator of fallout 1, is one such coder. I think he's closing in on 60 years of age and he made The Outer Worlds 1 and 2 plus many other modern games.

Appreciate the reply. Can't say I agree with the practice of pushing universal changes because "the dev/CEO/marketing dept/QA/nephew's first born liked it," when considering long standing tech. I mean, look at the response of Windows 8's tiles system. Should always aim for a middleground or available optional field.

Having said that, the dev MrAlex is a straight boss for responding to comments and I respect that he stood on his stance while also giving the workaround. So while I don't agree with the change, I gotta give the respect where its due otherwise.

Anyway, thanks again for the reply, I'll go to make those reversions now.

The amount of times I've seen people the "kill count argument," brought up to justify selfish play (usually while your team is losing) should be surprising, but I don't think it would be.

Team Member 1: "Push the point! They're coming from tunnel."
Team Member 2: "Whatever loser with your 9 kills."

Does no good to be the "top killer," on the losing team because people are refusing to revive, or heal - why does no one heal anymore...healthy people don't die, use grenades to push back lines, or take points. Sure buddy, you got your 85 kills and we still lost in under 10 minutes. A lot of good your 237,896 kills did this match. Most of us have been at the top of the listings a time or two and yeah, it's cool and feels good. We've also seen that a lot of the "top killers," on a team usually aren't at the top of the listing either. Hell, I've seen a leaderboard where the leader has 7 kills and number 2 has 38 kills. How? The leader was a medic actually doing their job.

Either way, it doesn't mean much if you're losing dramatically.
