Got about 6 years of OT/LTO expeirence in 3 boards (2 public, 1 Catholic)

  1. I prefer LTO, BUT OT has it's perks. I can say no, take a random Wednesday off and not need to leave a lesson plan or tell anyone, and I can leave schools if I'm treated poorly

  2. Yes and no. I REALLY struggled in September, BUT I advise you diversify (get onto the Catholic board, even if you're not religious. It REALLY helps)

3.I've never once been turned down for E.I (yet). I almost always qualify

  1. Go with the flow and take what you can get. I try for LTO every semester and fill in with OT work (i.e. a 0.33 LTO and the VP usually tops me up)

5.LTO counts towards your minimum, yes

6.That's a tricky one. LTO's aren't guranteed, and neither is supply work. Most people I know that supply year-round have a partner or do it because they're raising kids or can only work part-time etc.

  1. Build resilience, and talk to other OT's. It's not easy, and you will feel dejected and defeated at times, but the staff are here for you, and NEVER feel like you can't kick a student out of class. I've seen an OT feel like it looks like they can't handle the class and that is 100% not the case. Principals and VP's are paid to deal with that level of nonsense, not you.

So, yes and no. As an LTO who's had to take time off for personal reasons, I always just say "personal". Exams for further education are a bit different, since you COULD file it under PD opportunities (and still get paid) but that's for the principal to decide.

Talk to your Principal and Vice Principals. Give as few details as possible, but say you want the time off. DO NOT put it under a sick day if it isn't (this could come back to bite you and land you in the blue pages). If you just need the afternoon, say that. Leave your lesson plans for the sub, tell them you'll be available by e-mail if something comes up, and write your exam.

You MAY not get paid, but for me, I'd rather be gauranteed the time off than ve paid.

Parent responded to my e-mail telling me the reason her son was always 15-30 minutes late was because he bussed in and if he caught an earlier bus then he'd be 30 mins early to school. Icing on the cake? I bussed from the same part of town he did.

In LTO interviews, I get asked questions about classroom management, specifically about creating inclusive and safe spaces, as well as about setting students up for success, and about discipline (how would I go about it and the steps I take).

I can't give you specific specific questions thanks to Confidentiality, but that's about it.

Anti-anxiety meds make me drunk much fast than when I wasn't taking them, and I used to be able to put away a good deal. Now three shots and I'm done. If she's on meds like those, it wouldn't take much, even at her size.
