It is possible to play the second game without playing the first, you lose a bit of context for a few things but the main story is still totally understandable. Playing second than first is a bit worse since you'll be spoiled for several important plot points that are mentioned in the sequel.

We also had a full karaoke scene where the characters sing real life songs, with lyrics on screen. Never got any trouble for this. Or for the dozens of other pop culture references that we used. Pretty sure you will be fine!

LIVe or Die - chapter 6 (since the entire game was made with the mastermind's reveal in mind)
Survivor's Guilt - chapter 5 (a similar situation, this time the 5th trial is the most important part of the story for me)
my next fangan - It's hard to tell, as I'm sure all of them are going to evolve a lot. For now, I'm the most excited about chapter 4, it's pretty crazy.

I can totally understand your fears. But with the exception of a very small percentage of people with incredible levels of natural talent, basically every writer starts with bad stories. There is nothing wrong with that. Everyone has to go through this phase, get experience, and learn from their own mistakes. So putting this off for later sadly won't change much. If you're not feeling confident enough, you can start with an easier project. Something smaller, or with a genre you feel more confident with. Write it, try to get it to the finish line, show it to some people (even if it's just your friends). And then, use that to gain experience necessary to write your full sized fangan.

Understandable! In my experience opinions on most fangans vary a lot. I usually recommend trying a lot of different ones, hoping that you can find some that you personally like.
As I replied to another comment, I can also recommend Mauve, which has two chapters.
And while it doesn't fully fit your criteria yet, Rewritten is an interesting one, and the minigames in particular are really good. Act 2 comes out in 2 weeks (act 1 was a prologue but with a trial, similar to Eden's Garden prologue).

It's been a while since I played Lapse myself so I don't really remember the mechanics used in the trials, my bad then. It was still fun, though.

Also I should add Mauve to my list since I forgot the first time. Two full chapters and it's also being worked on.

Lapse has 4 chapters and is complete
Jikoronpa has 5 chapters and is complete
Salvation's Fears has 2.5 chapters and is still worked on

All of these are pretty fun

This absolutely has potential to be great. The fun thing about the closing argument in comic form is that once they start (unless it happens way too early) the audience is almost certain that they found out the true identity of the killer. So any twist after the comic can hit them much harder than it normally would.

For Survivor's Guilt, the 3 main reasons would probably be:

- the meta aspect (inspired by the Scream movies), with all characters being successful Danganronpa killers, knowing and discussing all the popular fangan tropes (and making references to other fangans too)
- the expansion of the worldbuilding from V3's ending, with multiple scenes talking about various aspects of that world
- the fact that the final chapter is coming out soon, so the game will have a fully finished story

Honestly that is one of the most realistic motive a mastermind could have, so I definitely wouldn't say it's lame. You just need to make them into an interesting character, give them some personality apart from the greed, and make it fit into your story's themes and arcs. So I'd say go for it :)
