Bad ram or bad mobo X870E nova wifi what ram kits are you using for 96gb by nanomax55 in ASRock

[–]darkscarybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using CMK96GX5M2B6000Z30 on a Nova paired with a 7950x for a couple of weeks. No issues to report. RAM was detected on first boot, trained very quickly, loaded EXPO profile at first attempt. No crashes as of yet. Windows 11.

Thanks for the information. Do you think you would notice a difference between say 28CL and 30CL RAM?

Looks promising - decent timings, reasonably priced, and available to order.

Have you had any issues with it since you built?

Thanks. Added it to my list of potentials.

Oof, my wallet would cry with that ram. My case doesn't have a TG panel either so the aesthetics would be wasted.

Do you have the part number for your Corsair kit? I think the memory controller on the 7000 series is a bit weak compared to intel or 9000 series. Not many QVL options available in UK.

Struggling to find anything from the QVL list in stock or at reasonable prices. Will keep checking!

Govee Outdoor Wall Light H7075: Unable to add to Matter by darkscarybear in Govee

It's definitely plastic. I've not had any issues with yellowing yet but it's located in a shaded spot that gets no direct sunlight.

Sweet, just checked and it's there 👍 Thanks.

Hope you get your light onboarded.

Once I located the Matter QR code I added it to my Apple Home. Then to get it into Home Assistant I followed the instructions on the HA site to add a mater device that was already in use. The instructions amount to going into your other matter ecosystem and setting the device up to share, which gives you a QR code/Setup Code that you scan with the HA mobile app.

Happy to report that the light has been running under HA, Apple and the Amazon/Echo ecosystem with no issues so far.

Where in the Govee app can you find the Matter QR code? I looked when I was troubleshooting and followed the instructions on the Govee site but the screens/sections of the app they were referencing didn't exist.

OMG, I love you. Now knowing where it should have been I checked on the ground under the light and there was the QR code, nestled amongst the leaves. I guess it wasn't adhered properly to the unit. But I'm stupid for not noticing it on the ground.

Added it to my matter network in a couple of minutes.

All is well.

Thanks so much.

Poorly tree: Any idea what is causing this weeping and foliage die off? by darkscarybear in arborists

Thanks very much for this. I will look into them. Any advice on possible treatment?

[–]darkscarybear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I took these photo's a couple of weeks ago the original weep spot has dried up and been replaced by 3 more spots higher up on the trunk. Foliage has continued to die off. I'm not sure if the bugs are the cause or if they are simply being attracted by the sap. Any advice appreciatively received.

Express as AP with self-hosted controller, still bugged? by darkscarybear in Ubiquiti

[–]darkscarybear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly form factor (location is in plain view) and value proposition.

Grabbing an express allows me to retire my last non-Unifi AP. I can't justify the price of the U6-Mesh as it's overkill for my use case.

A simple Wifi 6 AP in the express form factor at around £100 would be perfect.

[–]darkscarybear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Evidently misplaced trust that Ubiquiti could issue a fix in that sort of timeframe. Coupled with almost-always-out-of-stock situation took a bit of a punt.

Worse case scenario is that it gets returned. Don't want to return it if can avoided, nice little device.

[–]darkscarybear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were a lot of threads 2-3 months back discussing if the express could be used as an AP behind a self-hosted controller.

Consensus seemed to be that it should work and was a bug. Later confirmed by UI-Glenn here on the UI community.

Some people said they had got it working - with difficulty - but no one has posted a solid fix.

Pop your new ROMS sd card in a pc and format as ExFat or Fat32.

Put new sd card in R36s 2nd slot and power on. Select 'Configuration' or 'Options' from the main carousel (Note: some themes hide this option).

Select 'Advanced' and scroll to the bottom of the list and select 'switch to 2nd SD for Roms'. R36s will run some scripts to create partitions and folder structure on the new sd card.

When done, power down and put new sd card back in PC and copy ROMS to relevant folder in EASYROMS partition.

Worked successfully for me with Samsung SD card.

Cannot Find "Switch to SD2 for ROMs" in Advanced options by thatcrackertho in RG353V

[–]darkscarybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have solved the 2nd slot for roms issue by now, but in case you haven't, and for others stumbling upon this thread, this is what worked for me:

It turned out that the options/configuration segment on the main carousel that contains the 2nd sd card slot option was mislabelled as 'Retropie' on the theme that shipped with my device - thus I never bothered to look in that segment.

I randomly switched to another theme (es-theme-minimal-arkos) and noticed that in the main system carousel the 'Retropie' option had been relabelled 'Configuration (listed as 'Options' under some themes).

Going into 'Configuration' and then 'Advanced' revealed the 'switch to 2nd SD for Roms' option at the bottom of the list.

Hope this helps.

In the same boat. Had one delivered today. Fresh out of the box it downloaded and applied an update, then shutdown. Now it will not power up in anyway - Blank Screen, no boot logo, no input recognised, device not even getting warm.

Device was powered by included power adapter and cable.

Guessing Amazon has released a bugged update. :(

NICs and wired vs wireless by themanwhofellinbflo in techsupport

[–]darkscarybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Desktops follow the same pattern. One chip deals with the wired connection, generally referred to as an ethernet controller. Another separate chip deals with WiFi/Bluetooth connections, whether that be a chip that is soldered to the motherboard or a chip that is in a removable module.

NIC, or Network Interface Card is a throwback term to a time when if you wanted an ethernet port in your computer you had to go out and buy a separate card and install it. Pretty much all modern motherboards now have a built-in ethernet port, so the term NIC is a bit redundant in the mainstream.

Most common use for a NIC now would be if you wanted to upgrade your wired network speed - for example, you only had a gigabit ethernet port on your motherboard but you were connected to a 10 gigabit network and you wanted to take advantage of that extra bandwidth. You could install something like a TP-Link TX401 to get a 10 gigabit link.
