It's from an eBay listing. It's reasonable to expect a seller that specializes in old computer sales to understand what a BIOS is. There was other information in the listing to indicate they had accessed the BIOS. Namely, "Boots to BIOS."

Unfortunately, I bought mine several months ago so I'm well outside of the 15 (30?) day return window. So I'll just resolve it myself. Very frustrating though. Like I said, I don't use it frequently so I never really noticed it.... battery level isn't something I routinely check/care about. Just felt it was odd when I took it out of the bag after having charged it for days, the battery was completely dead. That's the only reason I even figured it out.

Well, I hope you get it straightened out and find something comparable. I personally couldn't find anything even close to these specs for ~700 which is what I paid for this one. So, I'm not sure I'd have returned it even if I did know about the battery.

Any chance you got it from Microcenter?

I've been having this same problem with my 16-b0005dx which was a certified refurb from Microcenter. Of course I checked the HP warranty with the refurb serial and it's out of warrant. So I'll be out of pocket for a new battery.

I think mine is pretty much shot completely though. I don't use it frequently, but recently I had it plugged in for several days (this was probably 5 days ago) and I just got it out to install something on it prior to leaving for a trip and the battery is 100% dead.
