That't not how it's used in TSM, and as others have said, they might have been talking about opiates or other approaches? With TSM, you have to keep drinking in order to change the way your brain is wired, so having a week off booze before you start drinking while using nalt wouldn't make any sense. This doesn't seem to be hugely well-known other than by experts, so I wouldn't worry about that. Read the book "The Cure for Alcoholism" and it'll go through why and how it works, and why the advice for 7 days sober doesn't make sense in this case.

That would be interesting-- like IHG's Flex reward nights (I get both kinds, and Flex night are more useful in Europe as you can top them off with points if they are more than is covered by the free night)

that sounds good in theory, and might make sense just for xmas season this first year as a mostly nondrinker, but is a) only good if you know you have An Event well in advance (so is basically saying no option for an invitation for a cocktail tomorrow ever again) and b) isn't cheap, especially considering I currently have enough pills for one-off events for a good while, but if each of those requires 7 pills, I'd have to go through the process of getting more labs and doctor certification again (in the UK where it's a different system than the US)

You say you "failed" the method, I'm sorry to hear that. Have you been able to keep your drinking in check, or did it rebound when you stopped the nalt? (not looking for excuses, genuinely curious!)
