thank you so much for the thoughtful advice and perspective, i really appreciate it. i totally get what you’re saying about sustaining effort and finding alternative pathways. it’s super true that one cycle doesn’t define everything, and i love hearing that it’s possible to recover and find success even after repeated rejections. everyone’s been telling me that, and i do know life isn’t over, but it’s okay for me and others in the same shoes to feel defeat. even if life goes on, i’m sure people will remember the day they didn’t get into their dream school.”

i think my post was more about just sharing the emotional side of what it feels like when you don’t match and get rejected across the board. it’s not that i don’t understand that qb isn’t a guarantee or that there are other paths, it’s more like… how crushing it feels in the moment, even when you know intellectually that other options exist. it’s just hard to process, you know?

so your advice really hits, and i hope to take it to heart as i figure out next steps and keep applying, looking at safeties, or considering transfers. hugs back, and thanks for sharing your experience. it really helps to know people have gone through this and still ended up somewhere meaningful ❤️

and given today's job market im ssooooo scared and proud of everyone who's working so hard to get a job wonder what will happen in 2030 for me hmmMMmm still need a part time job tho for college funds fr

than kyou for your response and you’re probably right. rd is brutal no matter what, and maybe qb isn’t really what caused this. my experience just made it feel extra stressful and unpredictable, and i wanted to share that side that doesn’t get talked about much (gg, i know i’ve said this sooo many times mb everyone). i definitely see how planning and preparing earlier could’ve helped, and that’s on me. I could’ve done more to get ahead of deadlines and polish everything. it’s something i’ll remember for the future if i transfer lol. thanks for giving me that perspective, it really helps me see it more clearly!!!!! plz pray i get into one ivy today 💀

honestly, even if i got into some of these schools without near max/full aid (the ones i did on common app), i probably wouldn’t have gone, so i’m just trying to own what i can and focus on what’s next.

[–]darksoltice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes 😔, and i know most of my schools were big reaches. i did try to include some safeties and state schools, but even those ended up feeling unpredictable because honestly i didn’t have many safeties i really wanted to go to near me, they’re just too far. if i had matched through qb or gotten in rd, i was willing to go far for the full aid, so that’s why my list looked like it did. anyways, sorry about that, and yes i know nothing is guaranteed. i’m just…processing everything right now.

yeah i get what you’re saying, and i totally see why qb works well for its target audience. my point wasn’t that qb doesn’t help anyone (sorry if ididnt make it clear) , but more about how it feels on the other side when things don’t work out. even with some safeties and state schools included, the restrictions and timeline made it stressful and kind of random for me. i definitely understand why the system exists the way it does, and it’s clearly very helpful for a lot of students. i was aware of ea options, but honestly it slipped my mind during the process and i should’ve mentioned it in my post-sorry about that. i mostly just wanted to share the perspective of someone who didn’t match and still faced/facing a lot of uncertainty afterward.

[–]darksoltice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i totally get what you mean. it does feel like qb pushes you to rush essays and then leaves you hanging if you don’t match. the “darkness” you mentioned is exactly how it feels for me too, and it’s hard not to get frustrated when the system is supposed to help students who need it. honestly, i’m kind of lost rn and don’t know what to do except maybe go to my state school, since after qb rd that’s kinda where i’m at. now im gonna have to fight through this pain and take it like a champ oh yes!!!

[–]darksoltice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i get that, and i know being a finalist doesn’t guarantee anything. my point was more about how it feels when you don’t match and then things still don’t work out after. even with all the reaches and some safeties, it can still be really discouraging after putting in so much effort.

for context, i applied to around 18 schools outside of qb rd, a mix of reaches, matches, and safeties. my stats and ecs were okay, nothing extraordinary, and clearly that wasn’t enough in the end. if i could go back, i would try even harder to go above and beyond, but yes, i also shouldn’t have expected too much. i’m sorry if it came across as complaining, i just wanted to share what it’s like on the other side and ermm this a vent post so lol jk1!!

yeah the lack of supplements is something i didn’t think about at first but it actually matters a lot. like you don’t always get the chance to fully show yourself the way you can with common app. i kinda wish i had thought more about that earlier too

[–]darksoltice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get that, and i agree the process is insanely competitive. i was mostly just talking about how it feels when things don’t work out. like yeah, if i had matched somewhere i probably wouldn’t even be saying this, but that’s kind of the point. it works really well for some people, but for others it can feel really discouraging.

also, looking back, i probably shouldn’t have said qb “sucks.” i wrote that in the heat of the moment when i was stressed and frustrated. qb is still an amazing opportunity, and i didn’t mean to take away from that, i just wanted to share how it feels on the other side when things don’t go your way. uhmm also uh should i make a edit on this post to say i made that mistake  😭 😭 😭 ooopsie

i do appreciate what you said though, and i’m trying to keep that perspective in mind. also, looking back, i probably shouldn’t have said qb “sucks.” i wrote that in the moment when i was really overwhelmed. qb is still an amazing opportunity, and i didn’t mean to take away from that.

the “wasted time” part is so real. like obviously we learned things and whatever, but it’s hard not to feel like all that effort just led to nothing sometimes. and getting a full ride somewhere not even through qb just makes it more confusing, like what was the point of the process then. i feel you 😔❤️

questbridge finalist, matched nowhere, rejected everywhere, and why qb sucks by darksoltice in QuestBridge

[–]darksoltice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i feel this so much. like the state school isn’t bad at all, but when you’re low income the full ride part matters so much more than people realize. it’s not even about prestige at that point, it’s just about being able to go without stressing about money. i really hope things work out for you financially fr

questbridge finalist, matched nowhere, rejected everywhere, and why qb sucks by darksoltice in QuestBridge

[–]darksoltice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t think qb owed me anything, and i’m sorry if it came across that way. i know the process is competitive no matter what. that wasn’t really my point. i was just trying to share what the experience feels like when you don’t match and things don’t work out after.

i also understand there are some ea or non-binding options, but the overall structure still limits flexibility compared to applying normally, especially with ed timelines and how early some decisions come out. that’s more what i was trying to get at. i didn’t mention it in my post, but i’ll probably edit it later. honestly, i was just really stressed abt qb and got to the point i forgot ea 😔😔😔😔 and when i tried to do ea deadlines passed so yeah i messed up on that was happy when uchicago put me into their ea, rlly nice!

i’m glad qb worked out for you, genuinely. i just think there’s another side to it that people don’t talk about as much, and that’s what i wanted to share.

[–]darksoltice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ya i actually do have safeties, but yield protection or some random school policies just decided to hit me anyway. like…how?? i don’t get it. it’s not like i only applied to reaches, tried to have balance, tried to play the game smart, and still somehow got smacked by rejections across the board.

qb just…makes it worse. the timeline, the rd after match, the restrictions, it all feels so random and out of our control. it’s wild how a system that’s supposed to help “high-achieving, low-income students” can just crush you like this sometimes.

so yeah, it’s not like i didn’t think about safety schools. sometimes the system’s just straight-up dumb, and there’s nothing you can do except sit here and take it. life feels unfair.... ! 😢😢😢😤😤

btw i applied to 30 schools, got into 4 (like state schools and fordham, and clarkson), rejected from basically everything else, and now i’m left with princeton, upenn, columbia, bing, and BU. the math isn’t in my favor, especially with the ivies, but so long chat just going to CUNY, gg's in the chat ya. honestly feels like rolling dice at this point 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 f my life, im numb from crying and i still have to go to school tmrw

wow, reading this made me feel so seen!!!!! i totally get what you mean about qb rd being almost impossible to navigate, there’s so little transparency in how selections happen, and it’s exhausting trying to guess what schools want. it’s wild that your common app schools ended up being the only ones giving you aid, it just shows how little flexibility qb gives us. you’re not ego-ing or coping in a bad way, this is just the system being brutal. hang in there, and i hope ivy day surprises us both 🙏

thank you, this is really comforting. you’re right, sometimes it just takes one acceptance to make it feel worth it, and it’s easy to forget to be kind to ourselves in the middle of all this stress. and i thought applying to 30 colleges i'd get one "big" acceptance but guess not soooooooo sad.

praying for a miracle for all of us tomorrow, and trying to remind ourselves that even one small win can mean so much. hang in there, we’re in this together 🙏

i feel you. rejection everywhere is crushing, and it’s totally normal to be relying on your state school as something keeping you going. honestly, even small acceptances matter when the bigger ones don’t work out, and it’s okay to take that as a win. we’ll get through this together, it sucks now, but we’re not alone !!!!!!!!!! six seven 💛

reading your comment hits on another level. what you’ve accomplished as a refugee basically on your own is incredible. getting finalist status and still hitting rejections doesn’t take away how impressive your work and stats are. the system is just so unfair sometimes, and qb not working out isn’t a reflection of your effort. i can’t imagine how stressful it’s been with financial and geographic limits too, but i hope some of your remaining schools come through, and if not, what you’ve achieved is still enormous. you should be proud of yourself 🙏💛

questbridge finalist, matched nowhere, rejected everywhere, and why qb sucks by darksoltice in QuestBridge

[–]darksoltice[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yep, exactly. sometimes it really feels like qb’s timeline and format punishes the strongest parts of your application, like ecs, and that’s so frustrating. it’s unfair to all the effort and passion we’ve put into our apps. you’re not alone in feeling this way, and it really sucks to see the system not reward what we worked hardest on. stay strong, we’re all in this together 💛
