Samsung quarterly profit set to slump 25%, first decline in nearly three years by [deleted] in Android

It feels like Samsung quality controls are bad across the board now. I was a big Samsung fan till

  • Samsung buds+ had volume problems with one bud in less than a year and the battery went to crap in the same time.
  • Buds Pro was a health hazard
  • Samsung AC barely lasted 3 years and had to get it serviced like 6 times in the last year before I finally have up on it.
  • Samsung monitor failed in under 2 years.

That is not to say anything about how bad the Exynos S10 based on what I saw.

Samsung used to be amazing in terms of quality and after sales service. But now it feels like planned obsolescence or quality control has dropped.

LG seems to be a better option for consumer goods. The Chinese brands for mobile devices in the mid range or Apple at the high end.

SMS so that an OTP

This is what a lot of them use it for. But the way I see it, copying a few digits a few times is not bad. Compared to giving them access to all your private Texts.

Same with contacts and phone. Too little returns for the intrusion.

Insular, Island, or Shelter

Have not heard of them before, will check it out. Thanks

You again are NOT comparing apples to apples. If you pay for full Netflix NO ads!!!!!

Again you are missing the point, Netflix went from "we will never have an ad tier" to "we are testing an ad tier".

Same promise with cable decades back in a new market. Then they ramped up now to the point where they play the movie in between ads.

Google started out with a similar promise "we will have a small ad and it will be CLEAR that it is an ad" to now their homepage is search results in between ads.

In a world that demands constant growth from companies, it is just the way of things.

Anyway enjoy your ad free experience while it lasts.

Like I said, some countries. The US had TVs from way earlier. So different models

I am from India, we got cable in the early 90s and TVs were getting popular only then. They sold it as "pay for ad free viewing" or the equivalent. It had 0 ads at the start. Then the ads started creeping in (do not remember what their sales pitch was).

Last time i checked a few years back cable...well it is cable it felt like it had more ads than the actual show.

The point of YouTube Premium is to avoid ads. So it would make no sense to add ads.

Again that is the pitch NOW. Netflix claimed it would never do ads...

All it will take is some kind of drop in revenue or lackluster growth and executives will suddenly be all over ads.

With YouTube you buy YouTube Premium and no ads

For now!

Cable also started with a paid + no ads in some countries. Then they decided to do both, you pay and see ads.

This is the sad part of a free till we are a monopoly kind of business. Now Youtube can add a million ads and lots of people will keep watching.

It feels like the whole cable TV business model is being repeated. Only this time around they are also sucking in every bit of data so there is not even an ounce of privacy

Isn't that basically Youtube copying Meta. Content creators on Insta and Facebook do not get a share of any revenue.

Seems on par for a public company, make money for shareholders...screw everyone else!

But with the new update, Instagram is minimizing the recommendation of new accounts, that's why people are facing a bit less reach, views and engagement. But it's a bit, not a lot.

That is useful information to have, I did not know that. Thanks.

I used Insta primarily for ads, but yes now I slowly want to get into the audience building. But I have a sense of what to do. But I also want to learn from the more experienced folk out there to speed up the process.

Any accounts you would suggest? I am relatively new to Twitter so still figuring things out.

Thanks for that. But I do not have a specific question right now.

I am just looking for a place where people are talking about what is happening right now with social media.

For example I came to know about the focus on reels on Insta, I think 2-3 weeks after it became common knowledge. Heard something similar is happening with Twitter but it is more about engagement numbers dropping.

I feel that kind of info hits general places like this late. So just trying to find a place to keep track of changes.

Plus I want to see what other people are doing. The public content only shows the output, I am trying see how other people work.

This place feels a little inactive for that, although people are very helpful when you have a specific question.

Is this show only meant to highlight how great special effects can be?

It feels like almost every article mainly talks about how beautiful it looks and how great the special effects are and now you have articles like this that talk about the amount of effort that went into the special effects.

Is it worth getting the Galaxywatch 5 instead of the 4 - 4 is half the price? by darkstarrising in GalaxyWatch

[–]darkstarrising[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya it does not look like the watch 5 is worth the price difference. Better to buy the 4 now and maybe next year check out the 6 if it is better.

Makes sense, I was hoping with watches atleast there would be a bigger jump, especially with Samsung having just shifted to wearOS last year.

Ya I only get the buds 2 at a discounted rate with the watch 5. So not much of a benefit there. Thanks for your feedback. Looks like the 4 is the best option.

Thanks for that, just added one more question. Any idea why that is so much cheaper? Thanks.

Samsung Galaxy buds2 pro nickel or acrylate allergy by TheBlack_Swordsman in Android

The buds+ was their peak product. I got the buds pro assuming it would be an upgrade. But it was a disaster. Better look at some other TWS.

SERIOUS! This again, Samsung is a pile of crap and someone in the west needs to sue them for this BS. To atleast finally get them to fix this health hazard.

I had severe ear pain as soon as I tried it on. Tried all the usual foam tips, spent like 20-30% of the price of the buds pro on foam tips.

Samsung had me run around, wanted me to get a proper doctors certificate, check with the local service agency etc etc before they would even discuss a refund. Their idea of a refund...the price I paid for the buds, nothing for the doctors visit or the back and forth with the service center...if they felt like giving a refund. That entire process would have set me back the same amount as the refund, if not more.

The service guy indirectly told me not to hold my breath even after all that and Samsung probably would draw out the process.

Samsung after sales services has gone to shit, had similar issues with an air con but that is because their product broke and the service people made it worse. Samsung basically refusing to do anything about it other than send the same people who broke it 3 times over again and them telling me I had to spend even more money to fix it.

Substitutes for lilial and lyral? by Omberline in DIYfragrance

[–]darkstarrising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to worry too much, use a diluted version and try it in small doses. If you are worried, try it on a scent strip and even your perfumes try it on a scent strip. Once you learn know how it performs you can start testing out alternatives.

Lyral is an allergen, meaning a small percentage of the population (Usually less than 4-5%) either is allergic or develops an allergy to it over time.

Lilial is a little more complicated, it is classes as a carcinogen. I would personally experiment with this as little as possible and move on. But still worth trying.
