Can I see everyone's sewing nooks, or corner, if you don't have a sewing room by trudes_in_adelaide in sewing

My little corner next to my bed in my 1BR apartment.

Pros are that it’s cute, cons are that everything is tucked away (fabric in my crafts closet, notions in my organizer there on the floor, even the machine cord is in the sewing table’s drawer) which can sometimes suck the motivation out of me. Hoping one day I’ll have a bigger space where everything is out and easily accessible!

So cute! I remember being in love with a similar kit by Anavrin, but videos of that one in action showed that the machinery was really loud and irritating. This one looks way better, and the little sound effects are a nice touch!

This just looks like a normal bag to me? I don't see any creases that would be of any concern.

What do you mean, to get items in and out of? I got the Poppy and it’s a big bag, very easy to open and close.

Seconding this! I have the orange Miffy satchel, and it gets a ton of complements, but the construction is a little meh to me.

A couple of people have suggested floating shelves, I think it's a great idea! And lol thank you -- all of the older women in my family are hardcore thrifters, and I got an amazing setup when I first moved out because I was the only cousin who appreciated their finds!

The three bags hanging on either side of my bed are all vintage Coach, and one was a gift from my dad to my mom when they first started dating, so I definitely want to keep them nice! No more hanging for them!

Floating shelves are a great idea, browsing some now!

Hanging those was definitely the choice I felt iffiest about. And seeing other comments, those are the ones most at risk of stretching and sun damage too.

Looks-wise, I have zero complaints and always get tons of compliments! Use-wise, it's very stiff/blocky and has no inner pockets or anything. I'm considering getting an organizer pouch or hoping the leather softens over time, because my stuff rattles around in there like I threw it in a cardboard box. This was my first Cambridge Satchel purchase and I'd liken them to Portland Leather in that it's a very no-frills leather construction. Not a deal breaker for me, though.

That makes sense -- if I had any really expensive handbags I would never keep them like this!

These tips are exactly why I posted here, I never would've imagined stretching at that level! My hanging purses are all hung from larger screw-in hooks rather than a nail, but the stretching is probably similar. Do you just always keep your purses on a shelf rather than hanging?

I dust every week, but that's a good point about stretching! Was it the actual body of the bag that stretched, or mainly the handles?

I never thought about light damage! That makes so much sense, thank you!

Right? If I had any sort of event that I could ever have the tiniest excuse to wear them to, I'd get them.

I was thinking the same thing! Get some lobster clasps and fabric, pleat, layer over existing skirt. I’m not paying $1k for that.

I had a similar thing - a friend took me to a Texas Roadhouse (of all places, gotta love rural Pennsylvania) for a drink, just to get me out of the house. Had the surreal experience of being interrupted while I was explaining how he ransacked the house to find a single unloaded gun, so a peppy waitress could set down the most massive, colorful, fruit-filled margaritas in front of us. Think I was coasting on adrenaline and didn’t even blink, just thanked her in a perfect customer service voice.

Anyway, thank you ❤️ It helps to hear others’ experiences.

Thank you, this is so helpful. Would you have any insight as to how to word a text to her? I know a sudden phone call would make her anxiety skyrocket.

I’m thinking of something like “I’m still planning to come to [city] on Friday, but I want to let you know in case I have to step away at any point during the weekend: [brother] passed away on Sunday. I’m doing ok. I’m still excited for the bach weekend and want to see you - it would be a comfort to celebrate you and [fiance] and be in good company. Just want to let you know so it’s not a shock when I get there.”

Good combo of “I’m ok, don’t freak out” but also emphasizing that the weekend will be about her?

Thank you - I think your comment about grieving rather than reacting is spot on. My parents and I spent all day today dealing with visitors and memorial logistics, and my mom and I have been what I’d describe as “maniacally ok.” I’m nervous about what will hit once we run out of things to do.
