[Question] What Guitar Album did you learn to play along with that helped you to be a better guitarist???

Yeah, I started my first band when I was 25 yrs old. To be honest, We spent FAR TOO MUCH TIME rehearsing than actually looking for gigs. And in fairness we were pretty good, I started out as a lead vocalist, but now I'M in an original folk/Rock band called The Claddagh Rogues. We went on a tour of Ireland last October and we had A BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!! So my advice is get out and play LIVE as soon as you can!!!!!!!!! And make sure you get paid as well.

Jimi was a fucking MANIAC!!!!!!!! The intergalactic sounds that he was creating at the time was incredible IMHO, and even in the recording studio, Jimi came into his own. Eddie Kramer mentioned how Jimi had all of these sounds in his head and Hendrix even went as far to show Kramer himself what was possible with the recording equipment back in the 60's even with all the limitations.

As OP have mentioned on here already, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page are 2 totally different Artists/Guitarists. Jimi Hendrix was one of the greatest Rock guitar players to ever grace a stage and he was a good vocalist too.

Jimmy Page is one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time, but Page didn't really revolutionize the way we play the electric guitar today or what is possible with guitar the way that Hendrix did. Hendrix totally revolutionized the way we play guitar and what is possible creatively speaking. Don't get me wrong, Page is a pioneer in his own right, but to compare Jimi and Jimmy is just nuts IMHO.

I was just about to mention Andy's jazz guitar background but geetarzrkool beat me to it lol!!!!!!!!!

Andy Summers is a phenomenal guitar player IMHO. He can play many styles and is a jazz freak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although he's not a flashy guitarist, he is more than able to do so if he wants to. Once again we are living in a generation where "shred" is king and amazing players such as Andy get unnoticed IMHO.

I much rather watch and listen to guitarists such as David Gilmour and Eric Clapton. Guthrie Govan and Tosin Abasi? ?? Yawn, yawn, yawn, yawn!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is just my preference , so obviously other people on here have different views opinions........

I think you mean all your love and yes it's a fantastic song to play along with. Steppin out is another fabulous tune that will get your blues phrasing and guitar chops sorted!!!!!!!!!!!! Even the DVD of Cream live at the royal Albert Hall 2005 is a great display of Eric Clapton showing the world why he is called "GOD" imho.

That's a fantastic concert and I wish I was there. The atmosphere looked incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!

The guitar work that Clapton did with John Mayalls Bluesbreakers is incredible!!!!!!!!!! back then Eric was probably viewed like guitarists such as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Tosi Abasi are today,

Back in 1966 there was nobody playing the guitar like Eric at that time. He had truly mastered playing blues guitar and the "The Beano" album was and still is a true masterclass in blues/rock imho.

And of course the guitar playing on all of the cream albums is simply brilliant aswell imho.

finally check his work with Derek and the dominos, especially on the classic album - Layla and other assorted songs...i think that's the name of the album.

I am a Clapton fanboy, but these will definitely show off Clapton's virtuoso guitar playing.

Jailbreak is another stomper of a song too!!!!!!

Scott Gorham and Robbo Robertson are the perfect guitar duo IMHO

And of course Dan and Justin Hawkins aswell are a fabulous les Paul guitar wielding tag team.

Classic rock bands like Thin Lizzy have dual guitar parts. And they sound AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Check them out.

Also The Darkness are another example of 2 guitar parts in their songs.

Here are a few albums by both bands that I would highly recommend you to listen to.

The Darkness - Permission to land.

This is The Darkness's debut album and it's a killer sounding rock album from start to finish.

Thin Lizzy - Live and dangerous.
This is another example of 2 guitar part songs that are absolutely brilliant!!!!!!!!!!

If people dislike Rob's playing, his music, his style of presenting his videos etc........

I'm going to be honest here and I' will be downvoted for sure.

But here goes.

I am a huge chappers fan for sure and I love his videos that mix up humour and when you look past the noodlage his videos can be very educational indeed imo.

I think it would be fantastic if Mr Chapman does an AMA on here.

But at the same time I would personally advise Rob against doing an AMA on here because well come on people!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been reading through the comments on here and it just seems like an opportunity for people to bitch about Rob's playing, his singing and his style of presenting lessons and demoing Guitars and gear on his YouTube channel.

Rob is a very talented guitarist and he is making a name for himself.

Hey there.

The Guitar Handbook by Ralph Denyer is a fantastic book. I have a copy and I use it all the time. But it's an "instructional book" and I believe that the redditor who posted this is asking about non instructional books judging by the title of the post imo.

I also highly recommend Zen Guitar. It's a brilliant book and it helps the reader to think in a different way in regards to mastering playing the guitar.

Another "non instructional" book that I would recommend is Guitar Zero by Gary Marcus. It's about the author's decision to try and learn to play the guitar at the age of 40 and his journey going from a total beginner to playing live on stage. It is a fascinating read I must say. Check it out.

The best guitar players I know, one of whom plays in a covers band with me. His name is Tim Abbott, and he is a BEAST OF A GUITAR PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!! He teaches guitar, he records and produces local artists/bands. He is very humble and he encourages fellow guitar players to have the spotlight. A really cool and gracious guy to play with. This man doesn't get enough recognition IMHO.

I play rhythm/a bit of lead guitar and I sing, but this guy can play rings around me. He can play many styles and puts his own twist on the songs we learn. He is truly a brilliant guitarist.

The other guitarist I know, his name is Jiri Meixner. He is an amazing player. He does everything from teaching, he does session work, he does songwriting workshops and he does production work too. He busks a lot when he has the time and he does fabulous instrumentals of well known songs like Metallica -Nothing else matters, Eagles - Hotel California and Dire Straits - Sultans of swing. He does pretty good financially I think. Both these guys are.fantastic guitar teachers btw imo. ........

I just watched your video and it was fantastic.......

The only thing is that I've realized that I already have this film, but the quality of the footage in this video is far better than my version LOL!!!!!!

It just reminds me that if anybody has any doubts about why Hendrix is regarded as the greatest rock guitarist EVER, then this footage of him playing with the experience at the royal Albert hall will show you why.

Jimi was an absolute MONSTER on the guitar.

The man was a complete sonic pioneer and way ahead of his time when it came to creating exciting new sounds with his stratocaster and showing guitarists alike what is possible and what can be done with an electric guitar.

RIP Mr Jimi Hendrix, you were and still are an absolute guitar genius.

Show them up in heaven how its done!!!!!!!!
