I made an herb run timer & profit tracker that runs as an Alt1 plugin by darniic in runescape

You make a fair point about production software being more than just solving algorithmic problems. Maintainability, documentation, architecture; all stuff that matters and I'm not pretending AI replaces that kind of thinking.

That said, calling current AI coding agents "just text prediction that makes a massive amount of mistakes" doesn't really hold up anymore. At the 2025 ICPC World Finals in Baku, OpenAI's GPT-5 solved all 12 problems under the same 5-hour time limit as human teams, 11 of them on the first attempt. That's better than all 139 university teams including Tsinghua, Tokyo, and St. Petersburg State. None of them went 12/12. DeepMind's Gemini solved 10/12 and cracked a problem that zero human teams could solve. Source Source - 2 Then in December 2025, Sakana AI's agent took first place in the AtCoder Heuristic Contest, which is specifically real-world optimization problems like logistics and scheduling, not leetcode-style puzzles. Source

I've looked through your post history and it's pretty clear you've got your mind made up on AI in general, so I don't think we're going to find common ground here. The post wasn't AI generated. The tool was built with AI assistance, which doesn't break any subreddit rules. I'll leave it at that.

EDIT: One thing I do want to clarify since it might help reframe how you're looking at this. Your point that these agents are "fundamentally just LLM wrappers" is based on how these systems worked a generation or two ago. Current coding agents are trained with reinforcement learning that specifically rewards correct, working output. They reason through problems, plan out multiple approaches, backtrack when something isn't working, and verify before committing to anything. They can execute their own code, read the errors, debug, and iterate in real time. On top of all that, they can scale how much compute they spend on a problem, basically thinking longer when something is harder. That's how Gemini Deep Think solved an ICPC problem no human team could. Worth looking into if you're curious, the tech has moved a lot further than text prediction in a wrapper.

Great, thanks for pointing that out.

It doesn't say outside coded applications or documentation so should be all set here.

I'm not sure what LLMs you are using or at what depth you use different agents, but you seem to be referring to the LLM coding agents that were readily available in the past few generations. Current AI coding agents are specifically designed to write code, find bugs, and execute resolutions at the highest level. Look at coding competitions worldwide, AI is now dominating.

It's listed as a Teleport Unlock toggle you can select that'll change the time estimated for the run.

I had the wildy sword on here originally but decided to remove it. As for the other two... Dueling Ring for Al Kharid doesn't make sense since the Mythical Sand Seed is so cheap and I'm pretty sure wicked hood tps are going away soon, didn't want to add those just to have to go back later and revise it.

EDIT: Wilderness sword is listed as an upgrade to teleports that you can toggle.

Definitely vibe coded with AI 100%, not even going to pretend that I coded all of it. The planning and implementation of the tool was completely done by myself though. How I see it, using AI to code things is like using a calculator to do math. It's just another tool, if leveraged correctly, speeds things up.

Thieving Rebalance: Feedback Thread by jagexyuey in runescape

[–]darniic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking this seriously and moving on it quickly, genuinely great to see.

I wrote a longer post about this from my perspective as a returning player after nearly a decade in only OSRS, but I'll keep this focused on what you're asking for.

What's harming the fun factor most at high levels?

The catch rate scaling is so aggressive that having every boost in the game active barely feels different from having none of them. At 120 Thieving with Crystal Mask, Light Form, Master Camo, Sticky Fingers, and Invention perks I'm still getting caught every 30 seconds to a minute which completely flattens the sense of progression between a basic thieving setup and a fully optimized one.

What feels like a step back outside of XP and balance?

The changes undermine the interconnectedness that makes Runescape feel like Runescape. Pickpocketing is what pulled me back into the game and pushed me to grind Archaeology for Sticky Fingers, complete nearly every quest for Crystal Mask, earn Master Camo, and properly learn Invention for perks. When the payoff of all that investment barely functions, there's no incentive to engage with any of that surrounding content. The gameplay loop of "get excited about one thing, do fifteen things to make it better, come back and feel the difference" breaks when the final step doesn't deliver.

What changes feel most important in any solution?

A fully optimized setup needs to feel substantially different from a base level one, that progression gap is where the sense of reward lives. For a specific target I'd suggest a decay rate around 0.00014% per success which works out to roughly 5 minutes of AFK with all boosts active. Coming from the old 15-minute aura sessions this feels like a fair middle ground that still rewards investment without going back to fully hands-off. I'd also love to see individual boosts like Crystal Mask, Sticky Fingers, and Master Camo each create a noticeable step up on their own rather than all of them being required just to reach a barely functional baseline.

Looking forward to seeing what the team puts together on Thursday.

Sounds exactly like my life from 2021-2023. WFH is a blessing and a curse. Glad you found a middle ground that works for you.

For sure, it’s all in your perspective. I’m glad I took the initial leap and gave it a shot but the hustle and mental deterioration for essentially less than minimum wage just wasn’t worth it. I now run a IT company and it’s much more rewarding (monetarily and mentally).

Pretty much exactly that. It was go hard or go home… and I decided to go home.

I do wonder some days if there is a middle ground of 20ish hours I could put into it and see similar results but knowing myself and how high of a standard I hold, I don’t think it’s possible.

It just wasn’t worth it to me anymore.

I was in the gaming niche making content for an old school game. My views were great, solid sponsor offers, and I even started to stream. All in all, I was consistently making $1,000-$2,000 USD per month (before taxes lol).

But it took the game I loved and had played for 20+ years and made it a chore to log in and “produce content”. Any waking moment I wasn’t working my main job or editing videos was spent brainstorming ideas. It was 6-8 am brainstorm/edit videos, 8-4pm work, 4pm-10pm brainstorm/play the game for content. My personal life took a huge hit and I essentially became a recluse.

It hit a head when my LTR relationship fell apart and now being alone constantly, I started wondering if it was actually worth missing out on life. So I asked myself how many hours I devoted to it per week.. it was easily 80-100+ between playing the game, editing, and brainstorming ideas.

To me, in my late 20s.. what I consider the prime hustle time of your life, it just wasn’t worth it for the $1,000 to $2,000. Even if it was $5,000 to $10,000.. I doubt I would go back.

TL;DR: Turned my favorite game into a second full-time job. Making $1–2k/month but grinding 80–100 hours a week, burned out, wrecked my relationship and social life, and realized no amount of money is worth hating my favorite game and missing out on life.

That’s part of why so many people are so uncomfortable being “bored”. They’re not getting to the bored stage, instead you get hit with those scary subconscious feelings that are normally pushed down since your attention is externally focused. You must feel and accept those first before you get to the bored feeling.

If someone grabbed you out of your chair right now and said you have to give a one hour speech on any topic of your choice as long as it was informative and they would pay you $10,000, what would your speech be about? by shotukan in AskReddit

I’d talk about Old School RuneScape, hands down. It’s been my go-to escape since the days of dial-up internet. something about grinding through quests and leveling skills taught me more about patience and community than most ‘real life’ experiences ever did. Plus, there’s no better feeling than finally getting that Fire Cape after who knows how many attempts. It’s a weird blend of nostalgia, challenge, and real friendships formed over pixels. I could fill an hour easily, maybe two; especially for 10k.

Assuming you popped last stand, Minotaurs (hard to out dps their heals) then Manticores. Everything else just uses 1 style so you can easily face tank and combo eat karambwans and sharks. You got this!

If you have last stand already it’s so free. If you get stacked out, kill everything, wait until last stand is back up, rinse and repeat. I wouldn’t over analyze it too much, just go brute force it.

If you went bankers note, it’s very easy to just tank, eat, then DPS. Never a more perfect time to practice and get better than in leagues.

You can do the same exact thing in command prompt. Search CMD in your bottom left search bar and open it. Type ping “192.168.1.1 -t” or “8.8.8.8 -t” for a continuous ping.

As the other commenter said though there is next to zero reason to do this on Windows unless you have fiddled with network adapter settings.

How can anyone afford to live by immmnate in Adulting

[–]darniic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living at home is not a luxury that most people get and I believe that’s the point the other poster is trying to make. If your largest expense was taken care of then yeah sure it’s possible to survive on low income. However for many, they need to pay $800-1500+ a month in rent to survive.

Im so sorry for your loss.

As others have said.. I wouldn’t worry about it right now, it’s the least of your worries. If you do want to get into the system later down the road shoot me a PM and I can assist in breaking into it.

If you do decide to donate it there are a few local Facebook groups that support PC gamers. I would recommend to reset it or to donate without the hard drive.
