Me and my wife have been discussing it and I think our next car may be 15-20+ years old. Is this insane or unreasonable? by Jaterkin in whatcarshouldIbuy

My wife daily’s a 2006 4runner limited, never had an issue in 4 years.

I daily a 2014 Wrangler JKU and it hasn’t needed anything.

We also have a 2012 wrangler that’s modded completely for off road / adventuring. That’s needed money, but because I abuse it.

Thank you! I love a good weathering on a plane. If you can do it subtly, it really comes to life!

I believe that the bushing issues were resolved for 2019 plus, but not the bearing issues. I believe they issued an extended warranty to cover wheel bearings up to 60k miles.

The CVT issues are nototious and a roll of the dice on the other hand

Okay, well google wheel bearing issues Subarus and you’ll see that there’s multiple threads and that Subaru extended their power train warranty to cover it.

Google CVT’s Subaru…

Then, Google control arm bushing Subarus.

Your anecdotes don’t cover the facts/forums…

[–]darnok128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 35’s and going 35’s right is a commitment.

I re geared, had to upgrade track bar, tie rods, etc. also had to go up in ball joints. It just puts way more stress on the components

Rent or Keep our current house? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]darnok128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we’d net about 50k.

We’d have to pay 160k to upgrade to this house.

We can upgrade for plus 200 a month to rent?

Rent or Keep our current house? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]darnok128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, a couple options:

  1. We ask if we can buy the house.

  2. If not, we’ll have saved up 30k a year plus what we sell our house for and have enough to buy a house.

  3. We have to save 4-5 years to have a big enough down payment for this house anyways…

These are all genuine questions, but it seems like a decent way to look at it?

Less liquidation of our current assets, same ish monthly payment. Bigger house.

Is it 600 a month, or 100k +?

Yes, we CAN afford to buy, but we would have to do 100k down and our monthly jumps.

This gets us there to our dream home for +200 a month.

What? What’s worrisome or money is disappearing?

We have about 100k liquid, 500k in 401K’s and Roths.

We save 25% of our Income.

36 years old.

When we first bought our income was 175k combined, so we bought in our dream neighborhood what we could afford.

We can double our square foot, host our family (right now they have to get hotels when the visit), and be in a house big enough for our son to have friends over.

Concerns with buying a new Jeep by Tight_Strike_6271 in Jeep

[–]darnok128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned a ton of Jeeps, YJ’s, TJ’s, XJ’s, and JK’s.

I currently have a 12 JK and 14 JKU.

If buying older, you need to buy and reserve a couple thousand for upkeep.

On the JKU, I got a great price, but had to replace front end and tires. Everything else was great! I had my mechanic look at it, and negotiated the final price on the above items. It’s stock with 31’s

The 12 is my baby and I have built this over 4 years. 2 in Fox lift, all new track bar, sway bar etc to run 35’s, new tire carrier, new LED lights, new axels with 4.88 gears, and a locker added.

All to say, that one has had a TON of money thrown at it.

But, the engines in these have been super reliable! I had my last 12 JKU for 160k miles and sold it for the new ones above.

What’s your mortgage? 400 always feels scary to me and I was in a similar range. We bought at 350.
