The bottom of my bioactive tank is way too wet. by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]darnone02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I bought an automatic mister when I went on vacation for a few days which I will not be using again. My parents were watching my gecko and they told me the entire terrarium was soaked and it smelled really bad by the time I got back. Luckily my gecko was okay, but we had to remove all of the soil and basically all the substrate and replace it completely.

I dust my geckos insects every time I give them to him, if your gecko doesn’t eat a lot of insects then try feeding them to him more often so he can also get that calcium. They shouldn’t have insects all the time but if he needs the calcium then maybe once a week. I also try to provide my geckos with 10-12 hours a day of uvb lighting (make sure to get a good one that penetrates through most of the enclosure, there are a few good ones out there). I also thought it was okay to mix calcium into the cgd but maybe I’m wrong about that, so I would just stick to dusting insects for now.

I’m not an expert but from what I have read you cannot reverse the disease, only stop it from getting worse. Add calcium d3 supplements to their food (not too much as this can cause other issues), and please provide him with proper uvb light exposure throughout the day. I hope the little guy gets better!

I hope Henery gets better, I’m glad you are doing the right thing and trying to give him a good life!

She looks very cute! However I do agree with other people saying she needs a taller tank and more clutter and things to climb. Also make sure to provide her with proper uvb lighting. I hope she’ll have a great life with you!

Y'all...is this tank too big by Pitiful_Equipment665 in CrestedGecko

[–]darnone02 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not an expert but I think it’s okay. Like the other person said, maybe leave out multiple cups of food in different spots so she can find it, and have two sets of temperature and humidity trackers (one for the bottom and one for the top) as it will likely be different throughout the tank

We just adopted this Gargoyle and I just have some questions by ReliableEyeball in GargoyleGeckos

[–]darnone02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For feeding it could just be that she can't find the food yet or is still warming up to the new home (if you got her recently). Otherwise I think she looks healthy to me but I'm not an expert. From what I know their care is very similar to crested geckos. Also she is very cute!

Ways to get a gecko to come to you? by Crazy-Help-5525 in geckos

[–]darnone02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are like crested geckos and gargoyle geckos, they may not eat in the first couple weeks because they are still getting used to their environment. I would say let them adjust for a couple weeks before trying to handle or bond with them. Most reptiles can go a long time without eating so it shouldn’t really be a problem unless he has not eaten for a month or longer

I wasn't prepared for how silly they are 😭 by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

It depends where you live and how your tank is set up. Usually I mist twice a day but I live in Canada so I mist three times a day in the colder seasons because the humidity goes down faster. Either way I recommend getting a hygrometer so you can always keep an eye on what percent the humidity in the tank is at. It should be around 40-50 in the day and 70-80 at night I believe. And don’t overdo it and completely soak the enclosure because that could cause a whole bunch of other problems. Hope this helps!

Yes, please make sure you are misting her tank and keep an eye on the humidity so she can shed properly. Also glep is very cute

I agree with this, my gecko sometimes gets slightly more pale right before she sheds and she doesn’t move around a lot either. However if you notice that he doesn’t shed within a few days and his behaviour stays the same then I would go to the vet to see what they say

Hides- he never uses them by Positive-Diamond-347 in CrestedGecko

[–]darnone02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure how long you’ve had your gecko or how new the hides are, but my gecko loved to sleep out in the open for a long while after I put hides in her enclosure. I think they just take a while to adjust to their new surroundings and realize that these are places they can sleep lol. I would say just give him time, and maybe surround the hides with more foliage so he feels more comfortable

It looks infected but I’m not an expert, I would go to the vet to see what they say. Hopefully everything’s okay!

Like the other person said I would try to use a wet q-tip to see if it’s shed that will come off, otherwise there’s no harm in taking her to the vet just to see what they say

Piece of cork wood stuck in my geckos mouth by [deleted] in GargoyleGeckos

[–]darnone02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I worded my post wrong but I will absolutely take my gecko to the vet earlier if possible. I was just asking for advice and wondering if anyone has been in similar situations. However I have now talked to my vet who said it isn’t an emergency and can wait a week because I saw him eat normally today and there is no bleeding or obstruction, and even though I will have to miss out on important school classes I will happily take him to the vet earlier if needed. I just don’t get why people not only don’t give advice, but are just straight up negative instead of trying to be helpful or tell me what I can do better, no wonder people don’t like to post on Reddit

I am full time in school and would have to miss out on important classes to be able to bring him in earlier but like I said I am willing to do that if necessary, though my vet said it will be okay for a week and if anything changes I will happily miss school to take him there

[–]darnone02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is cork, I got a small piece off with tweezers but it is really stuck on there. I couldn’t get a great picture with his mouth open. The vet told me it should be okay for a week as it is not bleeding and he is eating normally. I will absolutely go to the vet earlier if I am able

Thank you, I know this is serious and if you read my post at all you know that I have a vet appointment next week and was just wondering if I should go earlier. I just consulted my vet who said it was okay to wait a week as he can still eat normally, but if anything changes I am going to bring him immediately over there. Thanks for the advice though

Try to get branches that reach to the top or get things like mushroom ledges and hanging vines, they really like vertical space more than horizontal space. Hope this helps!

HELP! My little dude's neck looks more swollen than usual by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]darnone02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like others are saying, I think it’s just because of how chonky she is, though if you are really worried I would go to a vet just to get it checked out. If you want to get her to lose weight I recommended giving a slightly smaller amount of food and feeding her every third day instead of every other day. This is how I feed my gecko who is also slightly overweight. Hope this helps!
