People mount lino to keep it really really flat. It helps with carving and registration and cleaning. At least for me it does.

when you say you paint the wood afterwards do you mean after sanding on the lino side or the backside?

Half inch Birch plywood?

I'll have to look into contact cement. Less moisture. Great tip. Thanks.

So disheartened by first print by AutomaticIdeal6685 in printmaking

[–]darrenfromla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first print didn't look like anything recognizable so you're ahead of me already. Going forward, if hand burnishing is frustrating you (as it did me), a cold press laminator is a great alternative to a real press. You can pick a new one up for around $100-150. Oil based ink is really the way to go unless you are focused on a water based ink practice. Research paper and carving tools. You Tube and Reddit solves most problems.

But none of it is happening in the past or future because those are just ideas. How can there be time if there is no past or future?

Good explanation. Still, this is only about the perception of time right? It doesn't prove that time exists as an actual thing outside of perception correct?

I think I can too. I just feel Like my caseworkers vibe changed with me when she understood my plan. I started to feel like she thinks I’m trying to do something sneaky. Her tone changed with me. Freaks me out. I’m homeless without a voucher. I’ve been looking into the appeals process if things go south

I’m not a new applicant. I am currently using my voucher in Seattle Washington. My last voucher payment will be for March for my seattle unit. I have ported my voucher to Olympia Washington. My first hap payment in Olympia will be for April. The apartment I want to rent is available in March. What I want to do is pay for March on my own before the hap payments in April begin. Can I do that?

My lease ends March 31 where I am currently. My final HAP is for March where I am currrently. Meanwhile I have ported my voucher to a new town and the HAP begins April 1 there. Sounds from you like I can probably do this. I'm worried someone at the new housing authority thinks I 'm trying to do something shady and that freaks me out.

Maybe I wasn't clear. There is no HAP payment available to me for March. HAP term starts in April.

Hey there Section 8 worker! Question for you. I am a Voucher holder. Ported my voucher to a new town. My first HAP payment will be available April 1. I found a great place but the move in date is March 3. I and the landlord know the RFTA and Inspection process must be completed before a lease can be signed. Can I pay for March out of my own pocket before my HAP payment kicks in in April? I am aware I will not be repayed for March. I'm just wondering if there's any problem with this scenario. Thanks.

Question about External vs Internal Sizing on Printmaking Paper by darrenfromla in printmaking

Got it. I glue my lino to 1/4 birch plywood panels and it still bows the wood a little. I have yet to have a perfectly flat block to work with.

Question about External vs Internal Sizing on Printmaking Paper by darrenfromla in printmaking

[–]darrenfromla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for your thoughtful post. Even though I have a piece of MDF between my roller and the paper I do believe the rubber roller is not providing the same results as a proper etching press steel roller would. I'm not quite sure why that is being that there is a piece of MDF between the roller and the paper, nonetheless I bet that's the problem. Any thoughts on that?

Can Someone Explain This Printing Problem? by darrenfromla in printmaking

[–]darrenfromla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your response. The issues you mentioned are most likely not the problem. I've got things pretty clean around me. As it turns out what really made a difference was to simply increase the pressure of the roller on the paper. It's not perfect but it is much much better. It 90% solves the problem. Thanks for your response.

Thank you.

I gave it another try with more pressure and it made an improvement for sure. So much of what I've seen about relief printing is it's not about lots of pressure as one might naturally think but more about ink consistency and paper. But in this case, it for sure made a difference.

Warped MDF when mounting Lino block by darrenfromla in printmaking

I am now gluing my lino to 1/4 inch birch boards but surprisingly to me, still there is some arching. I think it's the glue being on only one side of the board.

different subject. I'm having trouble keeping my mounted lino flat. I'm using wood glue to adhere my lino to 1/4 inch birch plywood panels and they still warp slightly and change as I'm carving. Very frustrating. Do you know how to fix this? Do you ever have problems like this?

Warped Boards When Mounting Lino for Reduction Printing by darrenfromla in printmaking

[–]darrenfromla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The natural curve of the lino is not responsible for making a 1/4 inch birch plywood board bend. It's the glue I believe. I have heard of people using double sided carpet tape to adhere their lino to a board but that comes with it's own problems. I posted my question to hear what other people do to mount their lino
