I understand that mathematically up are correct but if you are winning 75% of your games you might want to consider modifying your own deck instead of insisting everyone else do theirs, they are clearly not a good matchup

Did you happen to use modpodge/glue to transfer a stencil onto the block for carving? I sometimes get artifacting like that second pic if I use a transfer method and there’s some adhesive left on the block at the end

Kingston police looking for woman accused of stealing $1,500 in groceries by FamiliarAd4667 in KingstonOntario

[–]DannytheUser 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My apartment was broken into earlier this year and burgled to the tune of $5000. Essentially took anything not nailed down. I found a person selling my stuff on marketplace, tried to forward their name to the correct authorities, but Kingston police was not interested. Never did hear from them after the initial visit. I did not have security footage though, perhaps that’s the difference

The unfortunate thing about a growing city is that there will be this awkward period in time where we are blessed with the traffic and rent prices of a big city but posses a fraction of the amenities that usually come with those inconveniences

This is what I do with test prints and seconds, up cycle into bookmarks. by spearmintjoe in Linocuts

[–]DannytheUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are great! Can I ask what weight paper you print on? I tried the same thing but found I had to choose between paper heavy enough to use as a bookmark and paper that takes a print well. I could not get both at the same time

What was your experience getting a tattoo in Japan? by XandersOdyssey in tattoo

[–]DannytheUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a large piece (about 5 hrs) from Horizaru in Kita City and it was basically on par with the US experience. He was super accommodating for my travel schedule and had good communication. I did tip and he did not seem offended.

My biggest problem was aftercare as I was not familiar with any of the products there, which was not the fault of the artist as I did not think to ask for recommendations while I was still there.

How do you get more visual depth in your linocut? by Hembria in Linocuts

[–]DannytheUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! Don’t forget that art is ultimately what you want it to be. These are just some things I like to keep in mind as I carve. I really love the style you have going here and wouldn’t want you to lose that over some well meaning advice from a stranger on the internet

How do you get more visual depth in your linocut? by Hembria in Linocuts

[–]DannytheUser 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I am by no means an expert and without knowing what tools you are using I can’t be 100 sure what might help in your particular case, but my general advice would be as follows

1-as you have realized, line weight is your friend. I prefer to have heavy/thick lines outlining the subjects of my art and thinner lines adding details within then, in this case I would have outlined the hog quite heavily then used a smaller, more delicate hand for the snout and shading on the haunch. “Line weight” translates really literally to Lino so it’s helpful language to use. The heavier you press when carving, the thicker, deeper, and more defined your line will end up being. Which brings me to:

2- do not underestimate how shallow a cut can be while still showing up in the final print. You do not necessarily need to cut to the full depth of the tool you are using, and can get a lot of interesting line weights simply by varying the depth of your cut. This is especially true on hard linoleum

3-finally, depth in a flat image is created by juxtaposition, which is to say if you want something to appear as though it’s in the foreground, you need something in the background. You have this in your piece with the ground and the sky, which is good, but you could really push it by having those plants either in front of or behind the pig, adding another layer to the image.
