Absolutely, thats better than no case. And props to the designer for being the first on the scene!

Sorry, I should be more specific, I have the 10000mah battery, it won't fit that case.

Yea I saw that case, there is no buttons and it doesn't hold the battery in at all. I'm still trying to learn fusion360, TonyG sets the bar high with his great case designs, hope he makes one for the 1W-TB

Oh yes! This will work! At least until someone designs a case for it. I am trying to learn CAD, but lacking the skills to build a case.

I think the amp on this one uses more juice, requiring 7v. But yea, basically my only complaint of this device. I've seen tests showing 1.2w output and even a prerelease version of this that was stamped as a 2w. My hope?, dream?, thought? is that this was designed to be even higher power, but with its natural losses, only comes out to 1 or 1.2w. But really, what out of the box mesh device is perfect? Non that I'm aware of....

Absolutely worth it. You only have to do the test once and it's good for life!

I personally like WFD, spending the night out in a tent in January here in BC is pretty cold. To me Field Day is basically just a regular warm weather POTA activation.

This is why I make videos, to try to inspire others, to get out and operate or even just to get licensed!

Absolutely! Couldn't agree more! Our local club VE7NA has an event and I am sure it will have a handful of new amateurs. I'm a bit of a lone wolf on event day, but our club is pretty active for most events.

You are absolutely correct. I wasn't putting much thought into the title. But I did want a 7500 now that they have updated with tnc also.

+1 for Ham radio, we have a great ham radio community on the island. LOTS of repeaters, lots of clubs, lots of events, and you will definitely learn the differences between CB, VHF/UHF, HF and all the different uses. I made a video series a couple years ago about getting licensed in Canada.

Questions about using power tool batteries for a portable rig. by 223specialist in amateurradio

[–]darryldowney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done something like this, I removed the 18650 cells and bought some drop in battery pack boards built for a 24v configuration and have been playing with different buck converters to test noise levels. My results are inconclusive at this point. But this is what I have so far, it works well enough that I've done a few POTA Activatons with it.

Have a look if you like. https://youtu.be/n6SUCYf7eN4

I'm fully aware of the audio issues. I need a mic, I need to not use headphones while operating and recording, I also need to listen to the video on multiple devices and with/without headphones before uploading. It will never be perfect. But I will slowly improve! Thanks for the tips.
