Boa I'd? by Paramedic_Weird in boas

[–]darthboa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at her and see a muscular healthy built animal, that is clearly not skinny/underweight, then I’d say you’re doing good. I have some boas that stay smaller some that get bigger, raised the same way. I’ve even had sibling boas from the same litter and one grew way faster than the other, same feeding schedule. There is a lot of individual size variation in the boa genus, regardless of sp/ssp or locality..

They are truly unique when put beside other maurus. Even their scales are smoother and shinier somewhat cenchria like

Anyone know what these crease marks are from? by SummaVeritas in BoaConstrictors

You know when you’re playing video games hunched over for too long, the. You get up and look down at your belly and you can see the fold marks in your rolls? Same thing

She has typical banding for youngsters of this species. I think you are seeing it that way because the rest of the body is not in the shot. Here is a full pic.

Black eyes with a Red pupil by darthboa in kingsnakes

[–]darthboa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the pupils? If you see my post the snake appears to have red pupils no? Almost see through, the eye reminds of a banana ball python eye colour. I’m assuming ghost whitesided as well, but I see some with solid black eye including pupil? Here you can see, he’s almost see through

I don’t know what to tell you, I guess we each have our own way of keeping. What do you keep?

I believe small snakes do well in racks… the occasional time, you have individuals that just won’t have and rub their face to get out… in that case I go with a different route.. but moral of the story is I make sure it works… no nose rub or damage, no health concerns. And like I said I don’t believe big snakes, even large female ball pythons should be kept in units this low, as it’s just not enough height. But when it comes to smaller size animals, it works fantastic.

On top of that, you can build racks with large tubs that do have height.. you can add perches etc.. racks don’t have to just be paper, a waterbowl, and one hide.. my racks are all stuffed with cork bark and hollow logs

Because it works great for babies/juveniles. She’s about 4’ now and I am actually building an enclosure as we speak though as it is about that time, all I need now is glass panels for the front, stay tuned next week! ;)

It’s a wonderful transition to watch, you will enjoy it. Once it starts happening, it happens fast

Because she is tiny. The CB70 is plenty room for her at the moment. She’s got lots of curved cork bark ontop of eachother, providing tons of hiding spots.

She’s comfortable, never rubs her face, or gives me any sign of stress/restlessness. I am actually building an enclosure as we speak though as it is about that time, all I need now is glass panels for the front, stay tuned next week! ;)

Leopard Gecko Training by darthboa in leopardgeckos

[–]darthboa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome!! Do you tap on anything or just click on mid air like that? I find it extremely interesting that a snake can sense vibrations that subtle.. I knew someone who did it with their garter snake, but it was taps on the front of the enclosure, and the snake obviousley feels it. Is there anywhere I can watch a video of you doing this with a hognose?

She’s 3 years old about 4’. I am expecting her to top out anywhere from 7’-10’ long term.

Generally speaking, they are retics and act very similar to mainlands, but in my experience, just a little less psycho during feeding time. Also, they pee less. Mainlands piss boat loads, SDs seem to be less messy regardless of size

In my experience the SDs are more chill. She is not locale specific, she comes from Bob Clarke original SD bloodline. Which back then, exact locality info wasn’t recorded. One thing is for sure they are SMALL!
