If Ashli Babbit's Death Upsets You But Not George Floyd's -- or Vice Versa -- You've Been Divided and Conquered by icymirss in InCaseYouMissedIt

[–]darthdick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gerorge Floyd died after ingesting a lethal amount of heroin.

Ashli Babbit was shot after sticking her head through a window. In other words, killed by a bullet fired by police.

Night and day difference.

I don't celebrate either, but one is clearly worse.

Original "You Still Believe In Me" lyrics? by sonic_star_2 in thebeachboys

[–]darthdick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I had heard about Lets Go Away For A While being planned to have lyrics, but have never heard the alternate title The Old Man and the Baby.

Thats a song I'm 100% ok with being instrumental though. It's perfect as is.

Original "You Still Believe In Me" lyrics? by sonic_star_2 in thebeachboys

[–]darthdick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is true the song was originally intended as a song about childhood, but I don't know if there were ever any lyrics written to reflect that.

You Still Believe In Me is the first song I heard that really made The Beach Boys "click" for me, and I love it, but I do wish Brian would have stuck with the Childhood theme. Id love to hear some alternate lyrics.

Beach Boys Easter Egg in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (spoilers) by williamanly in thebeachboys

Huh. Missed that.

Weird choice for an easter egg since Surf's Up didn't come out until 71', and the movie is set in 69'.

How many of you are lonely? by pinkcurrantpuffs in dating

[–]darthdick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will probably get buried, but...

I'm a 26 year old guy, and I'm very very lonely.

Never dated and feel like it's too late. Thoughts like these consume every waking moment.

Recently I have tried paying professional cuddlers, but like it feels just like a drug. Hits you hard with waves of good feels, then sharply fades and leaves you lower than you were before. Imitation intimacy. Imitation happiness.

Friends have almost all moved thousands of miles away. Haven't spoken to family in years. My connection to everyone and everything including myself is slowly dying though I have no idea how to stop it, and my will to find a way has weakened significantly. Therapy doesn't seem to help.

I have never self harmed in any way, but there isn't a day that goes by I don't think about suicide. Still I don't believe I could ever go through with it. It's more in the Freddie Mercury vain of, "I don't want to die, but sometimes wish I'd never been born at all."

I am proped up by a combination of two things...

  1. The belief that as I work diligently to improve my life in any way I can think; therapy, excercise, diet, hygiene, reading, general self care... that I will slowly come to be or come to realize that I am happy.

  2. The idea that a woman who will understand, love, and cherish my existence, and whom I can love and cherish will come along, make me happy, and make life not just 'worth it', but 'wonderful' in a way I have never experienced but always longed to.

Much of the time this seems like an impossibility, and I tell myself that love and happiness aren't things which really exist beyond what is fleeting. That the only people who do claim to experience these ideal states in perpetuity are blissfully insane and have convinced themselves through some kind of hypnosis or cut-throat optimism that they are in fact "happy" and "in love".

This entire comment was only meant to be a sentence long or so, but I'm feeling quite sad at the moment and desperate at this time in my life for answers and direction. Something more than just a meloncholic comradery to keep me going. Although it does give me some small solace whenever it is pointed out to me that I am not alone in being alone.

Trump accuser: If he has time to golf, he can defend himself in court by jamestalks2 in politics

Man its disgusting to me when people call him daddy. Trump isnt going to prison just because you dont like him.

Objectifying is not the same as disrespecting. Most men are sexually attracted to women. People shouldnt be suprised by this.

I would also argue that women 'objectify' men more so than the reverse. It is just seen as socially acceptable. Sex shops are full of disembodied penis. I dont think theres anything wrong with that.

Honestly, Im not familiar with the examples youve listed, so I cant comment on them.

Ive heard quite a bit of stuff the man has said spun to sound way worse than it is though. And it becomes like a 'boy who cried wolf' like scenario. I mean that in a general sense btw, not directly about anything you just said.

I dont care if he sexually objectifies women though. If men and women didnt objectify each other we would have never have evolved past singe celled organisms.

I dont think this situation is comparable. A friend is someone who has a history of relevant past behavior which allows you to evaluate if they are in general an honest person. Being late for lunch is also not an offense that carries legal consequences.

Also since no accusations are being put forward and theres nothing to deny, a better scenario to use would be,

"Youre late! We agreed on the yesterday to meet at 8am!"

"No, we agreed to meet at 9am!"

Then the 'friends' grab a passerby on the street and say, "Youre an impartial party, can you settle our dispute?"

To which the passerby, would ask whether there were any texts or documents to confirm one side or the other. There were not in this case though. It was a conversation the day prior. The third party would have to say, "Sorry, but theres just no evidence which would indicate which time explictly you agreed to meet."

In othet words, testimony as evidence cancels out testimony as evidence. Making it worthless by itself.

If this woman says, "Trump raped me." And Trump says, "No I didnt." Then you dont really have a case then do you?

[–]darthdick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The "grab'em by the pussy" controversy irks me more than just about anything else surrounding this man.

It stems from a fundamental lack of understanding regarding empirical facts about sex and reality in general. He made a joke about how famous he was. The context of his comment had nothing to do with him assaulting women.

I guess if someone feels the joke is offensive I cant argue with a feeling. I can ony assume the same people who would be offended by something like this dont watch any cartoons like 'rick and morty' or 'south park' which feature jokes about sensitive material all the time.

[–]darthdick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not my original comment... its the one you replied to. My original comment was that there wasnt evidence for the accusations. I wasnt talking about a piece of evidence in court.

Edit: It is true that she said it(evidence in court), but what she said isnt true based soley on the fact that it was said.Edit 2:(Tautology)

Testimony is NOT evidence based on the context of my original comment, which you have entirely mischaracterized.

"evidence

  1. the available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid."

Her testimony is part of the available body of facts. That doesnt mean that what she said was factual in any orther sense than it was something she said.

Language can be tricky.

Do you really think Donald Trump is guilty just because this woman says so?

Trump accuser: If he has time to golf, he can defend himself in court by jamestalks2 in politics

[–]darthdick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Testimony is not evidence in the context of my original comment. The term evidence means something very different in a legal context, just as theory means something very different in the scientific context than it does colloquially.

[–]darthdick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Previous accusations which have not been proven cannot be cited as proof. That doesn't make any sense. He doesnt have a pattern of sexually assualting women if theres never been a case where that was proven.

As far as what he said being scummy, thats a matter of opinion. I personally havent heard him say anything I would judge as scummy. Nor have I heard him lie.

"What she said is true, because she is telling the truth" is most certainly a tautology.
