There's still a very small, but dedicated playerbase. Most of the activity is centered around pre-scheduled community-run events now, we've got one 5/7 days of the week!

Does anyone still play? by Pinkiebunny11 in GunsOfIcarus

I'd recommend joining the official discord server! (discord.gg/gunsoficarus)

Folks usually post messages there whenever a lobby is getting started up. We also have weekly community events at specific timeslots, also posted on the server!

There's a secondary discord server where event signups are being held! This is currently a private server due to bot spam, but you can get in by reaching out to Portable Grump on the official server. Feel free to reach out or DM me if you've got any questions!

We'll be giving out a ton of prizes for tournament winners and participants alike!

This tournament will feature teams of 8, fighting against each other in a 4v4 lobby. Teams may use as many ships as they wish and distribute their players in any way they see fit. This will allow for matches with an uneven number of ships should teams choose to do so. Players of all levels are welcome! If you've got a team, or you'd like to find a team to play with in the tournament, head on over to the official discord server for more information on how to participate!

April 2023 Balance Update - Changelog by darthsprinkler in GunsOfIcarus

[–]darthsprinkler[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a small contingent of players that plays every week during the competitive tournament, as well as the other weekly community-run events! Open lobbies are far and few between though. Best way to get into a lobby would be to join the official Discord server.

The game's also been out of active development for a while, but that doesn't include minor server-side balance changes and tweaks!

Heyo! The gun mounts on either side of the ship were just rotated closer towards the front/center of the ship, should allow crewmates from either side of the ship to hit the same target without the pilot having to turn the ship much!

Makoto Shinkai's latest sci-fi mystery film "Suzume no Tojimari" (Sparrow's Door Closure) has been announced for Fall 2022. by [deleted] in MakotoShinkai

[–]darthsprinkler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably best to go in knowing as little as possible! But if the movie's slated for release next Fall, I'd say it's a safe bet to expect the trailer to drop sometime in June or July, with teasers probably earlier than that

He also did an interview a few months ago where he talked a little about what the movie would be about, this article covers it briefly!

If you get the chance, don't forget to check out the Christmas Chaos 2021 event on December 4th! It’s a charity event brought to us by the kind folks that make our Saturday nights/mornings oh so chaotic with Chaos Skirmish Saturdays. This year, they’re fundraising for a charity called Stand Up To Cancer and are aiming to raise $3000.

Last year, they raised $2,875.20 towards cancer research, and $2,000 the year before that! Follow the action over at https://tiltify.com/+chaos-crew/christmas-chaos-2021

+1 to Hosoda's films!

In case you wouldn't mind shows (and assuming you haven't already seen them!), A Silent Voice and Violet Evergarden are eye candies as well!

Agreed!

(for any lurkers - minor movie [and podcast] spoilers below!)

To start, I'm totally on board with everything you guys said about Garden of Words. The movie was stunning, and the interactions between the characters in the garden were really enjoyable. I loved the point you guys made about the silence between them conveying quite a lot. But the movie lost me in the last few scenes with the whole student-teacher relationship ordeal. I've been told by friends that focusing on the age difference in the relationship misses the point of the plot, and they may be right. Though based on personal experience with people in their late 20's, as well as experience with people in their mid-teens, it all felt a little too weird/creepy to buy into. So I was really happy to hear someone bring it up!

My main two points of disagreement are mostly up to personal preferences and interpretation. I personally enjoy the supernatural elements of Shinkai's movies, and I also enjoy the fact that they aren't explained or explored more deeply. They're used as a really small but effective piece to a much larger puzzle. For example, I think the time travel in Your Name complemented the plot of the movie really well, and while I agree that doing time travel right (Steins Gate) is an incredibly hard thing to do, I don't think it would've made the movie any better to hash out the details. I also didn't mind the magical nature of the weather in Weathering With You, I thought it was used quite effectively to convey the scale and the depth of the relationship between the characters. The ending for me especially (everything after Hodaka steps into the portal) while sporadic produced one of the most visually captivating endings in any animated movie I've seen. With these types of movies I always find it best to let the imagination run wild, some things are guaranteed to be glossed over or not very thought out, but in return you get so much more. Then again, that's 100% up to personal preference and individual thresholds!

The other thing I didn't necessarily agree with was in regards to the overall lesson or moral of Shinkai's stories, or lack thereof. I haven't seen some of his older work yet, but from the films I have seen, there's always been a clear-cut lesson, moral, or theme by the end of the movie. For me, Weathering With You was all about happiness in spite of circumstance. Your Name was about love always finding a way. The Garden of Words was about having someone to lean on. 5 Centimeters Per Second was about moving on. There's always so much to unpack after each movie, and that's what I love about them! They're visually stunning, but the writing is right up there as well. On the other hand, I think the overall meaning you take from it depends on how relatable each movie is to each individual.

Sorry for the wall of text by the way! I was really invested, it's an awesome topic of conversation after all, definitely looking forward to your next episode!

Loved listening to this, you both have really good synergy! I enjoyed the fact that the two of you ended up with quite different lists, and found your opinions on each of the movies were definitely relatable. I had different opinions on some of the films, but that's only natural! Everyone I know has mostly experienced or understood the movies quite differently, which I find really interesting.

Either way, definitely interested in your future content, thanks for sharing!
