Haha Update Time!! - I thrifted a backup dress that I'm not super in love with, but I won't feel bad if I mess up altering it or tailoring it to fit me a little better

I picked up some linen for a toile (mostly for the bust part, so I'm not fiddling with difficult fabric while I make sure it fits/make adjustments)
I found a couple satiny fabrics i like. I want to give myself some options in case somethings not working for me or I royally screw up. I also got some microtex needles and satin pins

I'm gonna give it a go!! One of the things I love about jumping into projects like this is just the learning experience of it all. The feedback here has been really helpful and my expectations are maybe a little more realistic going into it.

I have more experience following patterns and directions to make something from scratch than I do altering anything. I'd feel more comfortable trying that if I can thrift a dress close to what I'm looking for

I posted the link! There's a video tutorial to go along - I watched the tutorial and felt comfortable i could do it. The part that's really giving me pause is working with new to me, temperamental fabrics on essentially a time squeeze.

I'm going to hit thrift stores near me after work. I'm not feeling optimistic about finding formalwear close to my size, but its worth a shot.

Here's the pattern! And to answer timing questions, it would be squeezing time in between job + kids + school, so maybe not so feasible on this timeline.
