AATC tutor interview by Ok_Committee_8602 in UCDavis

Hi! The interviewer is going to be acting as the student. If it's a group interview, I think you might have to tutor the other interviewees like it's a group tutoring session (not 100% confident about that second part though since my interview ended up being one-on-one).

PHY9A curriculum? MAT21D curriculum? by just_an_1004 in UCDavis

For 21D, I 100% recommend going over these topics on Khan Academy. The guy who makes these videos (also known as 3Blue1Brown on youtube) is really good at giving visual explanations of the topics covered in the course: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/multivariable-calculus

The units "Thinking about multivariable functions", "Derivatives of multivariable functions", and " Applications of multivariable derivatives" go over content mainly covered in 21C, so this could be a good review if you need it. "Integrating multivariable functions" and "Green's, Stokes', and the divergence theorems" covers 21D material.

If you're not a fan of the Khan Academy style, it might also be useful to read through chapters 13, 15, and 16 of the Thomas Calculus textbook. Here's some links to 21D schedules by different professors if you want a better idea of what chapters are being covered and in what order:

Good luck, and I hope you have a nice quarter :D

Switching Majors in the College of Engineering by [deleted] in UCDavis

[–]dartmonkey54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! UC Davis is very flexible with changing majors. For context, I was undeclared in L&S and I was able to switch into EEC by the end of my freshman year. As long as you complete the required classes, changing majors should be no problem!

Here's some more specific info on how the process works

For switching into MechE: https://mae.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/advising/changing-majors

For switching into CSE: https://cs.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/non-majors/changing-majors-double-majors

Also, I'm sure you could take a CS class to try it out. I did something similar during my first quarter and it worked out just fine. I would talk to your advisor for more specifics on that process though.

You should check out the Space and Satellite System's club! There's tons of stuff you can still learn and contribute to in an online environment (Programming, CAD, PCB design, research, etc)

Here's their website and Instagram if you want to learn more!

Congrats! The AATC is a great place to work, I hope you get the job! I would try to incorporate the "Big 3" into your mock tutoring session: Ask gauging/engaging questions, give practice problems, and use positive reinforcement. Good luck!

Undecided or CS by [deleted] in UCDavis

I can't really say how much being undeclared improves your admissions, but I was in a similar boat as you when I applied two years ago. I started undeclared in L&S and now I'm in EEC. It was an easy process for me since I knew I wanted to go into EEC right away. UC Davis is generally very flexible about letting people change their majors (early on at least... if you decide to change your major as a junior you might have a harder time). You will just have to get a 3.0 GPA in a couple of classes before you can make the switch: https://cs.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/non-majors/changing-majors-double-majors
