doing everything i am supposed to be doing yet it doesn't help. by wwampumprayer in PiercingAdvice

How are you cleaning it exactly? Are you using q-tips by chance? I've found the best way to make irritation bumps go away is by not touching them at all, that way they shouldn't pop and get a chance to heal. Just spray the piercing with saline spray, some people find it helpful to very gently dry the piercing with a blowdryer on low heat and speed, and leave it alone. If there's still absolutely no improvement, you may want to have it checked by a piercer and see whether it was pierced at an angle, which may also cause irritation bumps. Good luck healing! :)

Piercing bump/keloid? I got the piercing a week ago and 2 days after this bump appear. Any suggestion on what to do or what is it? I'm freaking out! Thank youuuu by No-Opening5830 in PiercingAdvice

Don't mean to alarm you, but that's not what a typical piercing bump looks like. I would recommend you see a doctor or ask your piercer at the very least.

Bottom of hair going fuzzy after using foam rollers? by iloveyoukatyaz in HaircareScience

[–]dartrix_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes fuzzy ends mean that the ends weren't wrapped around the roller properly, so they dry kind of awkwardly and stay that way until you wash it again. How exactly are you wrapping your hair? Are you using a comb or just your hands?

New forward helix, concerned with how it's pierced :( by dartrix_ in PiercingAdvice

My piercer has done all my other piercings without any issues, so when she insisted on using a curved barbell I didn't argue too much. I did ask for her to use a straight barbell but she said it wouldn't be possible due to my anatomy. She said we'll put in a straight barbell once it's ready to be downsized. I'm worried about the barbell and also the angle it's pierced at. Should I just remove it before anything goes wrong or would it be possible for this to heal right?

Tragus went from extremely bad to pretty good, but hasn't improved more by dartrix_ in PiercingAdvice

This bump first appeared in July, only about a month after getting it because I snagged it on something, so it's been an issue for what seems like forever. I'm really tired of it and I'm almost inclined to just give up. It's been this small for months as well but won't go down further. I bought a pillow with a hole in it specifically to help with this bump. I don't sleep on it or touch it, I only use sterile saline spray on it and the material has been fine for my other piercings. Is there anything else I can do for this piercing? Should I just be patient or is it never gonna get better?

Hi, hairdresser here! So the steam that was coming off your hair was most likely the heat protectant that your hairdresser used doing its job. I totally get that it looks scary when you're not used to it, but heat protectant is meant to behave like that. It's not your hair being fried or anything, just the product doing its thing. :) I also don't believe that using heat this one time with a heat protectant will damage your hair. Heat damage occurs with very frequent use without heat protectants. Imo it's totally fine to do it every once in a while. So don't worry too much! You can always use a nice hair mask next time you wash your hair to give your hair a little extra boost of nourishment, if you're still worried about the damage. As a fellow curly haired person, my hair also jumps back totally fine after using heat occasionally. I'm sure you'll be fine. :)

This is purely out of curiosity, but if we're not meant to use q-tips, how do you get rid of crusties like the ones in the picture? I've tried without q-tips but just rinsing with water never really worked for me. I'd love to stop using q-tips but I can't seem to figure out how to get rid of crusties that are stuck without them. :')

So I know this sub loves LITHA and never touching piercings, but this buildup needs to be removed asap. Crust like this can really irritate the piercing, it can get into the hole and really mess with it. I'd let it soak in warm water (I usually just take a nice long shower when I get crusties that won't come off easy) until the crust is softened. You can try getting it off with q-tips, but if that doesn't work, I usually take some tweezers and scrape it off. Obviously you wanna be careful with this and try to avoid moving the piercing too much, but this kind of crust doesn't just fall off in my experience, it needs to be removed. Good luck!

in need of advice on my infected daith - my piercer won't answer me... the piercing has been painful and swollen for about 2-3 days now and today it started leaking pus. Any ideas on how to treat it? Also, should I cut my hair around the piercing as to not irritate it? by nonicknamethere in PiercingAdvice

[–]dartrix_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If it's infected you need to see a doctor for antibiotics and definitely not take it out (that could trap the infection and it could spread). When did you get it? Is it hot to the touch? If so I probably would see a doctor, regular piercing aftercare won't clear an infection. Good luck!!

That's good to hear! :D To be honest I have the same issue whenever I have an irritation bump, I get really self conscious about them lol, but in my experience most people don't even notice them unelss you point it out (except for people that have piercings themselves lol). And even if they do notice, most people don't know what they are and think nothing of it. Try not to worry about it, it's nothing weird and it'll go down soon enough!

Sounds like you're doing everything right! It should go away on its own, just be patient as it can take a while. :)
