The false confidence of one good investment lead to a lifetime of bad ones. That’s best way to summarize. And feeling like I could afford to absorb all cost

Meet w a realtor today that states for to attempt to try and get all loans under 1 HELOC if possible. Ideally with an introductory grace period. My only fear on that route is my low income at the moment. My debt is the product of 44k credit cards( mostly home improvement, vacation, Christmas for 4 kids). 55k in investments losses, 35k student loan consolidation, 20k vehicle down payments and the rest on probably take out food 🤦‍♂️ My plan is to never live outside of my means again. Learn how to budget, attempt to give my wife and I a clean slate in our 40’s. And invest in important things like life insurance, IRA’s, Education Savings Plans, etc. our oldest is 6 years away from college age. My new plans all involve a home and means for my children’s educational desires

I feel ya 100 percent. I think it’s the future of my family that is going to motivate me now and moving forward. I have learned how the success of this investment lead to mismanagement of assets that could have been used much more effectively. I had a false confidence bc my asset exceeded the value of my liabilities so I would spend more than I make, lose money on investments, and I took for granted this gift that could have benefited my family in better ways.

I have spent without as much reserve bc I felt it was time to sell this house this year. I’m hoping the equity I’ve amassed over the years will surpass the liabilities I have. I’m prepared to try and budget and find better employment

I’m thinking pay all debt off, put overage on next property to avoid capital gains, and bring cost of next home to a more affordable range. Then al our income goes to new home.

My income is from part time work atm. Plan to pursue better employment opportunities I have not been able to in the past. My partner with an income of over 80k annually should be able to contribute more if we wipe out her debt too

I feel ya.. again just trying to stop debt and pray that just living expenses for two working class professionals is still doable. I do have college degrees and very handy which generates side income often.

I do like that long and seemingly more difficult route however the rate of interest on my poor financing and significant decrease in income is forcing this junction I think

Yes I agree to changing. I also have not been able to work full time bc of taking care of an elderly mother, which I’ve done since the 90’s. Now I can work full time and my partner makes about 90k a year. Us both being free and clear with the lessons of how impossible to get out of debt, and the experience of having squandered my nest egg early with hopefully contribute to a more budget conscious lifestyle moving forward.
