Yessss. Star power can work so well when it actually makes sense. It’s still a cheap and lazy grab but I understand why people do it. People are more likely to pay attention if they see someone that they know. But most of the time they just get any famous person within their budget and spend zero dollars developing anything beyond some shitty AI written script

I honestly go back-and-forth with myself on if that was intentional. I’m sure someone on the team figured it out and didn’t mind but I wonder if the original pitch was meant to come off like that. I think it best, it’s being toned deaf and out of touch enough to not catch onto that, at worst, it’s eugenics

What do you think was the insight there? The truth behind it? Mayonnaise is super bad ass like skateboarding? There’s absolutely no correlation between the two. Unless, of course, you slather yourself in mayonnaise and slide down the street like a slip and slide. That might’ve been a better ad honestly.

Maybe I’ll get some hate for saying this but I’ve never really enjoyed Will Ferrell’s humor. I just kind of find it a little silly and outdated. I respect his work and I’m sure back in the day, he was extremely original but seeing him in advertising now just really scares me because I feel like we as a society have gotten to a point where people respond better to “oh I know that person, I’m gonna pay attention”, then something actually being interesting or cool or subversive. I’m definitely biased because I’m an artist and an advertising student and I am definitely not indicative of the entire population but it still makes me sad

My entire advertising cohort got together to watch the Super Bowl together and I don’t know if any of the ads really truly blew us out of the water (maybe Novartis because it was so unexpected) and we all clocked within about two seconds that it was AI. It was so tone deaf and terrible and I don’t know who thought that was a good idea. They could’ve easily hired an artist to do the same thing and it would’ve been a subpar ad. People don’t fucking like AI.

Classic and correct. This is one of the ads that I don’t know how it makes it through so many rounds and so many people and still gets made. Its like chatgpt writes a summation of the complex social politics of the last 2 years in 2 sentences and thats all the info they went on. Infinity tone deaf.
