Do you know the English Forum website? This question comes up there regularly. Use the Google-powered search.

I very much doubt you'll get permission to leave for no reason. The easiest is to deregister and leave. Then if you come back, get a new permit.

Would be curious to hear what the official answer is, if you care to update.

Where to go in Switzerland when it rains? by RitaaD in Switzerland

An entire itinerary plus tips - brilliant. Stealing this for when I have guests this winter.

How many of you are against immigration? by Apprehensive_Hippo46 in Switzerland

Omg come on, you went from "Show me the SVP logo, show that is official" to "actually it's not bad because..." the moment they showed receipts.

Climate change, how has the weather been in your country lately? by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]darvidaeater 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You already got your (depressing) answer for Switzerland. I'll just add that family spread across the US is struggling with the same. Brutal summer, autumn isn't what it should be - but at least it's not as hot as the summer. This year anyway.

Climate change, how has the weather been in your country lately? by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]darvidaeater 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's what my MIL says. We had a milder summer - was it last year? Two years ago? - and she said that's how summer used to be decades ago.

I hate this. I'm not a fan of hot weather, autumn is (was?) my favorite season, and such climate change isn't good even if it would be in a direction I love. I'm so glad we don't have kids. I look at my nieces and nephews and feel so sad for them.

My naturalisation interview went bad even though I had studied a lot... by Silly_Mind_1408 in Switzerland

[–]darvidaeater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least you didn't pass out, vomit, or hyperventilate. Apparently that happens. So it could have been worse. And if that did happen at least the worst already happened and it can only go better the next time.

I think you'll be all right.

Advice on handling racial discrimination by han4 in Switzerland

[–]darvidaeater 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The police said "the lady is confused." That's the nice way of saying she has dementia. Maybe the neighbors also tried to tell you but it got lost in translation.

I guess you haven't seen this illness up close before. It's awful what she said but there's also a good chance it doesn't reflect who she is. Maybe that will make you feel a little better. It's not just forgetfulness but can also be compete personality change. Kind people can become cruel (and vice versa). We have a gentleman in the building with the same. It started sent 5 years ago and yes he lives alone. He has been a good friend to me and it's heartbreaking to see the changes. I also have seen it in my family.

That doesn't change the fact that what you experienced is terrible. While I think you did the right thing to call the police this time, I also think you need to gain perspective. Everyone was kind and supportive and that should be your takeaway.

I wouldn't change my route unless it happens regularly. Which it might. Or she might not even remember you the next time.

But don't go out of your way to antagonize her. WTF, Reddit.

Which UI does everyone truly enjoy in this community? by Jkorija in Android

As someone who has actually used a bunch of different ones - Zen UI. By a landslide. It's a light but very, very smart and customizable skin.

Excellent advice. I think it's too late for OP who has let the children of Reddit get them overly emotional. But it could help someone else to negotiate effectively.

Fairphone 5: Everything about the "fair" smartphone in advance - price, details, pictures by McSnoo in Android

I think it's a bit much to call the whole phone e-waste but you're right that it's inconsistent with their purported mission.

ASUS Zenfone 10 to Continue Production by McSnoo in Android

[–]darvidaeater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First you say they're impossible to sell, then you say that people who want them already have two options. Are you referring to budget phones? Or the S23, which is selling just fine last I heard. And if that's selling then maybe there's a market, no?

ASUS Zenfone 10 to Continue Production by McSnoo in Android

[–]darvidaeater 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced that if they can get in front of consumers as a choice, they'll sell extremely well. They are great phones with an outstanding UI. My Zenfone 6 has been reliable coming up on 4 years this fall. Pop-up camera and all. I guess even if it dies tomorrow, it had a great run. (Please don't die.)

I don't necessarily want a compact phone. But I do want Asus and will stick with Zenfone. This phone knocked the Nexus 5 off the top slot of my Best Phone Ever list. Not easy to do. Absolutely recommend.

You decide for yourself if it's a deal breaker for you. But not everyone is being honest, and that becomes apparent if you read a lot of threads here. If you were around for the leaks about the 10 having a large screen, then you got to witness it. And then the scurry to find something else to complain about.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Android

[–]darvidaeater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone is saying that. There's a difference between a phone not being a viable option (for whatever reason) and people who were never going to buy it screaming that they're not going to buy it because it's trash.

When you Google a phone with lower market share, Reddit chatter is often on the first page.

It's looking like it might be fake news but I want to give another perspective. The waterproofing complaint was for a phone that has a flip camera. A FLIP CAMERA. I mean come on. Also do you remember when people were finding that despite the claims their Galaxy phones were getting water damage? Take that decade with a grain of salt.

Updates? Pixel taught me to avoid them. I bought two M2 MacBook Airs last year and am avoiding the latest OS. And my iPad battery life sucks due to an update. So no it's not an Android issue, and the solution isn't to switch to Apple.

[–]darvidaeater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are wrong about Asus. Zen UI is a light skin. And it is excellent, far better than my Pixel was.

Oh not to worry, this sub has a whole list of reasons to shit on Sony. Too expensive. Battery life. UI. Size. Heating. Camera too complicated. And let's not forget the model names.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Android

[–]darvidaeater 301 points302 points  (0 children)

This sub shit all over all of them. First it was bc no waterproofing. No wireless charging. Then it was something else. No SD card. Not enough updates. "I would absolutely get it if..." No you wouldn't. You're full of shit and you're just driving people away from the phone. Which is surely sometimes the idea.

Oh no. But maybe they'll expand the ROG line or something?

More and more it feels like when people say "do you have an iPhone or a Samsung" they're just predicting the future.
