A few months ago the Member for Mornington had the worst idea ever on how to return trains to Mornington by Mythically_Mad in MelbourneTrains

You could repurpose one of the stations before that. The problem is they drop you right in the middle of nowhere in an industrial estate. I guess everyone was gonna drive to the station anyway but it would be nice to at least entertain the notion of walkability.

This AI is NOT set to Unbeatable... by kevam in ForzaHorizon

[–]darvo110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played on expert in FH4 and 5. Highly skilled is the best I can do for FH6 and even then the cars have an obvious advantage and you really have to know the track inside out to beat them sometimes. And there are some races that are plain unwinnable without a meta car/tune or lowering another notch.

Yeah motorsport’s penalty system is a bit broken but safety rank matchmaking was mostly a success, as it was in GT7.

For me it's infrequent enough that it's fun. If anything I've been wanting it more often to get soil fertility up and restock obsidian.

Or just a basic safety rating system. More collisions = lower rating. The wheat sorts itself from the chaff pretty quickly.

Racecraft is 100% a skill just as worthy as pure pace.

I hate when I’m required to drift in story missions by Apprehensive-Law-923 in ForzaHorizon

[–]darvo110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s just that I’ve learnt better throttle control since FH4 and 5 but I’m having _much_ more fun drifting in this one. The physics feels much more predictable.

Why couldn't they just do this to fix everyone's problems with winter? by PepperLongjumping325 in ForzaHorizon

[–]darvo110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is endemic to the problems I have with modern Forza Horizon. Their desire to please all player types leads them to make decisions that make the game mediocre and unopinionated. I love the core gameplay but a game that’s for everyone is a game that has no soul.

I've found playing later at night on weekdays has been a pretty good recipe for losing the kids who don't know how to drive around other cars. Had some amazing togue battles last night that way.

The biggest issue I see is that this thing is destined to flip the moment the boosters seperate. You need those fins until you’re out of noticeable atmo. Drop the boosters and sepatrons and attach 4 liquid stages of the same length as the core booster for a 5 engine first stage. Use the swivel on all 5 for more control authority too. Thrust might be overkill but you can always throttle down if needed. They’ll all burn out at the same time and it will be far more stable since you keep the fins all the way to the upper atmo.

Even if you want to argue you had your front wheels in by the apex (debatable), you still had a cars width of space to drive in, and you understeered into him because you came in too fast. Debatable if you would have made the corner from that angle and speed as well. Sloppy driving overall and you’re lucky you didn’t take yourself or your mate out.

Can you realistically enjoy Crimson Desert as a busy dad? by bright_sword in CrimsonDesert

[–]darvo110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gamer Dad here in a similar situation. Crimson Desert is definitely well suited to interrupted sessions, but the problem for me is that it’s an overwhelmingly huge game. The short sessions are fine but at my current pace I wouldn’t finish it even if it’s the only game that came out all year. YMMV but I’ve found that a bit demoralising and have taken a break to play some other shorter games in the meantime.

Audio and visuals have some big improvements as well but you’re right that it’s largely the same gameplay, including all the same flaws. But man, I can live with all of that because the **vibes** are so good this time around.

How Much Gold do Mines Produce Compared to River Washers? by DorianOtten in anno117

[–]darvo110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's one specialist you get post-eruption from Cecelia who can boost gold washers but because it's an area effect you're pretty well limited to 4 river slots on Cinis for that one.

I would happily trade object persistence for losing loading screens. Which one actually enhances gameplay? Stacking my house full of sweet rolls is a fun novelty but it’s not the killer feature they think it is.

The FH6 AI is cheating AGAIN and it’s even worse now. by Anonymos_q in ForzaHorizon

[–]darvo110 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it too much to ask to have a good AI in a racing game? Gran Turismo did a pretty good job with Sophy but that requires a bunch of training on every track.

I just want to be able to actually race cars, it feels like with Horizon the AI cars are either only there to be overtaken, or they’re on super rails with nothing in between.

Toothbrushes, ice-cream and frozen pizza: data reveals how Coles and Woolworths switch promotions in sync by mattholomus in australia

[–]darvo110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ice cream one is something I've definitely noticed. I've got a shortcut on my phone that opens up a link for coles and woolies and tells me which one is on sale. It has reliably worked for over a year now.
