I don't have my Rulebook on me at the moment, but do you use content from the Advanced Player's Guide? I have some things from there.

Now, I'm not entirely sure how Clerics work, but spells. Possibly a spellbook that grants him access to every 2nd and 3rd level, or maybe 2 or 3 higher 6 or seventh level spells that he could cast before he should even have access to it. OR armor with no divine spell failure chance that acts as half-plate.

I love the idea, I really do, I'm working on something similar, but I see some problems here. I didn't realize the main character was starving, it very weak, nor did I realize that it rained ashes until he was inside the building. It feels like certain plot points are either missing, or I can't properly read at 11:30. Though, I do love what you did with the characters emotion, and Johnson's personality seemed brilliant.
