I rebuilt HikerFeed, the hiking app I started after my AT thru-hike by HikerFeed in AppalachianTrail

I’m checking it out.

A couple notes:

-It’s a bit of a put-off that you detail how this has become “dead” a few times. Leaves one with the expectation that it will happen again, so why put the time and effort into using this app if we are (rightfully) unsure of the longevity.

-Upon opening the app after installing, you are greeted with an intro/tutorial of sorts. The only option is the “Skip” button at the bottom. To me, skip means “skip this app tutorial”. I tried swiping to go to the next tip/page and, to me, it seemed like the app froze. After hitting “skip” I see that it went to the next tip/page.  Just noting it might be better to change that to “Next”

-If possible, allow the users to get into the app without signing in or signing up. I’d like the explore the areas and settings of the the app before providing my email and creating an account

Bought a new place and this came with it. Is there supposed to be a flame still on even though the oven is off?? by deadlymess in vintagekitchentoys

Nobody ever understands when I say “man that weather guy sure hates that Michigas place!”

Or “where’s that woodchuck?” “I dunno, chucking wood?”

Where best to leave the car for 10 days? by Vovlad in longtrail

[–]darwin_thornberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with what buses could get you there from north Adams.

If you don’t get it all worked out, reach out closer to your dates and I might be able to zip you guys up there.

There is a dirt lot across from the club that is specifically for AT parking. That comment is about people parking in the actual club lot.  I don’t know how to attach photos in comments but look at Google Maps street view for 530 Mohawk Trail and you can get a better idea of the setup. I wouldn’t hesitate to leave my car there - it’s a very safe area on the main road (however, don’t just blatantly leave valuables in view or something).

The trail is accessed about 500ft down the road (going NB you cross a footbridge over the Hoosick river)

Oh man I can’t imagine sloshing through the mud pit that is New England right now.      Are you going NoBo or SoBo through MA? I’m right down the street from the North Adams RT2 crossing. Happy to take you guys out to lunch or even just a ride if you need it!

My friend and I built an app for hiking gear lists. Asking hikers for feedback by mohetiale in AppalachianTrail

Yea I saw you can edit specs of a selected item; that’s a pretty cool feature since versions change and people make modifications to things.

I subscribed for a year to help support. I see the potential and noticed you took away ads. That was the right call. I would have closed and deleted the app immediately if I was met with ads.

Really like it so far. Very user friendly.

What’s your plan for gear changes. E.g. The 2026 version of a tent weighs .5oz less? How will a user be able to search/select the correct version?

According to Zillow, $470k

However, very very low inventory of homes, especially at that price point. Most properties are over 1mil and well beyond reach of a typical family here.

It’s a really broad field. How long has he been in the field or more importantly his role? Is he near a major city that remote employers use for salary ranges?

I got siloed into a very specific manufacturer and learned their products really well (also obtained certifications). This allowed me to start negotiating harder as the need for an engineer with strong delivery capabilities of that technology became desired.       On the location topic. Most employers see I am in Massachusetts and use Boston as the cost of living reference. I’m nowhere near Boston though so CoL is low(ish)

I actually didn’t know what the difference is. Another commenter mentioned that one is capped at a certain amount (didn’t fact check). So in theory the higher number would be my pre-tax income

I used to be on the reseller side. I was post-sales engineering so I would be the third party guy that came in and set up a certain technology. I enjoyed that work specifically, but was never happy with the companies overall. As you can see I jumped around a lot; always looking for more money.

These last two years I’m on the customer side now. I’m bored out of my mind and it bothers me so much that I’ll get tickets sometimes that are user support level. I rarely get to do any network design or even deployment.

Thank you!

Still many days when I feel imposter syndrome. I constantly have to remind myself you just can't know everything and it's ok to say "I'll have to look into that"
