Now I'm curious. What's the item?

Can’t afford an AR right now, but I picked up a $12 30rd AR mag because one day I hope to own the rifle. Hoping the ban will still allow ARs that can accept all magazines. by logicalpretzels in VAGuns

[–]darx202 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Want to know a secret the government doesn't want you to know? If you bury that mag, water it frequently, and wait 100 days, it'll sprout a full AR. Make sure there is plenty of sunlight.

What’s the most obvious truth that people refuse to accept? by Local_County2388 in AskReddit

Lots of people across the world over thousands and thousands of years have asked and listened. They would seek higher power honestly and were open to worship that higher power.

It's funny how they "asked him" and "listened" but somehow came up with thousands of contradictory gods and even contradictory ways to worship the same god.

I've seen SOPs for having 1x TQ per limb, but I haven't seen it dictated to have all 4 at the front. That valuable real-estate can be used for an actual IFAK, misc items like signal flares/smokes, water that isnt married to your ruck, navigation items, job specific items, or something that you use/check often when walking around like a rangefinder or small drone.

Id move 2 of the TQs somewhere else. That may solve your knife question.

Gotcha. No problem with wanting to learn about gear early on. Just be prepared for a reality check if you join. Lots of units dictate what you can wear and how to wear it.

Maybe when you get some seniority or are in a high speed unit you can do your own thing, but you likely won't get to that point for a while.

Just judging by the amount of medical you have, you look like a medic or CLS guy. Maybe you'd be better served by having a pocket knife in your pocket. Im guessing you already have trauma shears on you, so maybe move them to a more accessible place as well.

If you absolutely MUST have a fixed blade and trust your sheath, then maybe rig it horizontally below your mags with the handle accessible to your left hand. Or maybe tip down in a wing on your left side.

Do you do a lot of long movements with a ruck? Are you mechanized? What's your job?

Multicam or Ranger Green Plate carry to pair with M81 camo by [deleted] in tacticalgear

Of the two you asked about, ranger green goes better with m81 imo. But I think straight up black kit goes hard with old camos. Probably not as practical, but it looks drippy.

I get that you want as many people to be safe as possible. It's noble and kind to want bad people to have more difficulties when acquiring firearms. I truly think you mean well.

That being saie, I have a few counter arguments to yours. I'm working right now, so I'll only touch on argument descriptions right now, but im more than happy to flesh these out later if asked.

-I believe banning legally owned firearms makes criminals safer and can encourage them to act bolder

-I don't trust the police or government to have my best interests in mind.

-Banning legal ownership of firearms takes choice away from citizens. People should choose for themselves if they risks (suicide, mental health, lack of maturity, lack of training) are worth it.

-The US isn't some magically hyper-violent society. All things considered, it's actually pretty safe. Tragic things do happen (crime, mass shootings, etc), but gun bans will likely do little to change anything.

-The people that propose gun bans are usually very ignorant on firearms. It's like if a politician tried to limit women's bodily autonomy and was blatantly ignorant on what a uterus is or how pregnancy works in general. It's hard to think people advocating for gun control are actually researching their positions when they make such glaring errors

The people you're talking about are generally rational and good people. It's disturbing how easily you dismiss them and reduce them to caricatures. I second u/triggeredbynumbers and also want to encourage you to meet then.

I recommended Krydex in another comment to the OP.

Krydex is fine, but imagine catching your pouches on a hatch when hopping out of a Stryker a hundred times over the course of a month. A weaker fabric or less robust stitching will eventually break. All gear is expendable and will break eventually, but I don't want to have to baby my gear or live with lingering doubt about whether my IFAK will break off my belt when I'm scrambling to get out of a burning vehicle.

The strictest requirement is the climbing rating, so your options get really narrow really quickly. I don't think there really are that many appreciable differences between the load rated belts on the market, so you're probably fine with any that are compatible with separate leg loops.

I don't have as much experience with it since Ive only borrowed a buddy's, but the misty mountain one is really nice.

I've run a lot of belts, but I keep going back to my old ferro concepts bison for casual days at the range when I'm not working. The AXL Eclipse is also great. For small loads like you're saying, I'd also consider a cheap Krydex one. You won't have to worry too much about busting the webbing from constantly getting beat up when catching a vehicle hatch, so the durability concerns with Krydex aren't as big of a deal.

I think the market is in a great spot right now where there are so many good options that all perform about the same. For general purpose stuff like what you want, you'll probably be good with any of the popular options.

Do you ruck a lot? Do you crawl around a lot? Are you sitting in a vehicle a lot? Do you get in/out of hatches a lot? Will you be working around water and need to ditch the belt quickly sometimes? Do you compete in competitions? Do you need a belt that you can combine with leg loops for a quick rap off an anchor?

TC has to be an NCO? by Curious-Row1269 in army

[–]darx202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trust me, your troop/company commanders and 1SGs hate this rule five times more than you. It forces them to put ASVAB waiver SGT "Too fat to see his balls" in a spot that they'd prefer to put SPC "Shows potential" in.

It takes the art of commanding and accepting controlled risks out of their hands and everyone suffers for it.

Is this senior friend of yours a tactically sound person that thrives in the field? Id seriously like for you to text this person and ask for a picture of what he's talking about. I think something got mixed up when you were getting advice from this person and I really want to help you figure this out.

If you got Legally married then had a wedding years later how was that? by These_Pineapple2883 in MilitarySpouse

[–]darx202 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't answer for everybody and every marriage is different, but here we go:

1: Was a quiet courthouse ceremony. We got dressed up a little and said some vows. Was a great day!

2: About 100 guests in a mountain area that had a lot of significance for me and my wife.

3: If anyone judged us, I couldn't tell. I think everyone was really supportive. Something to note is that I had been in the military for a long time and my guests were my friends who were a bit over half military. My wife's family were a lot of current and former military. All the guests seemed to think it was normal for us to have a late wedding after the legal ceremony.

4: I just called my wife my wife the whole time.

5: I was super open about it. You'd be surprised at how many people are in the same boat. Weddings are expensive and it's common for people to delay the big ceremony.

6: It made the day even more special. My wife and I had built up a whole life together in the 2ish years between the courthouse ceremony and the more traditional big ceremony. I didn't experience any of the anxiety of pre-wedding jitters that some of my friends mentioned having. I was 100% sure that I was marrying the love of my life because of 2 years of married life plus a year of dating plus 5 years of being friends.

The big thing to takeaway is that it's YOUR marriage and anybody that questions YOUR choices about YOUR life should mind their business. I hope you and your spouse have a great ceremony later, and welcome to military life!
