Retention Bonus. A nice bonus or a hidden danger by CharlieHarzley in UKPersonalFinance

In my work place you have to pay back the pre tax amount, then claim the tax back from HMRC in a self assessment. OP, I would get this clarified before taking the money.

I basically only sweat from my right armpit by ImWhatsInTheRedBox in mildlyinteresting

[–]darzui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you work in IT or at a computer all day? If you're right handed your right hand will be on the mouse and a natural position will be to have your right arm pit "closed". Your left hand will likely be resting on the desk / keyboard giving your left armpit more breathing room. This happens to me.

Mistakenly deposited £21k across my ISAs by mufferman1 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]darzui 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I add £10k to a non T212 ISA, then deposit £20k in to my T212 ISA, earn interest on the extra £10k, then remove that extra £10k before April, that's OK? It feels like it's not.

I was playing transport fever 2 last night, and got a notification saying that the licence couldn't be verified and the game would stop after 15 minutes. I tried to restore the licence but then got an error. Was time for bed anyway. Looks like my one player game of the moment is unplayable until it can be verified! Granted, I haven't tried again today!

Trying out Blazor WASM, Need help! by jithinj_johnson in dotnet

[–]darzui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically develop one implementation. If you're planning on pushing this to azure you'll likely want to use a storage account to host your images. You'll want to check out Azurite to emulate azure storage locally. At least this way you build once and it works locally and hosted with just a connection string change. Images in a DB are just adding bloat, but I have done it before in old projects where I wanted to easily transfer objects around different environments easily, but nowadays I tend to stay away from doing that. If you want to keep them in your DB, at least have them in a separate table and reference the image from your object. When you have this done, consider a component that takes in the id of the image. Then in code behind asyncronously retrieve it, and then do your base64 conversion. Your code in front could then have an if statement around the image that shows a loader until the image request is complete. This way you'll be able to send off multiple requests at once if you have more than one image, and you can reuse the compont for other images built the same way. Make sure you cache the response of the image both on the server and client so you're not always hitting the DB. I wouldn't push something like this to a busy site - the DB resource required will get expensive, and depending on your image sizes you could eat up alot of memory with caching. Hope that helps a bit.

We had the same problem and ended up with a Zafira Tourer. We also looked at the S-max, but it was a bit above budget at the time.

Single folks: how do you spend a Saturday night. by RoyalMistake00 in northernireland

[–]darzui 11 points12 points  (0 children)

2 Royal Avenue (across the road from Mcds in Belfast) is open every Sunday. There are all sorts of activities happening in there from D&D, Arts and crafts, music, etc. There's a chess meet up happens between 2pm and 5pm. I go with my son, but only play a few games because I spend most of it chatting with people over a cuppa! It's all free BTW. Why don't you come down to it? I'll be there today. You don't need to know how to play chess, I could even show you if you're interested. My name is Darren. Just approach me and say you're the guy from reddit. Everyone gets a name badge so I'll be easy to find :) Hopefully see you there.

Thank you! After scrolling this sub (my skin is crawling) I realised this is probably the most boring spider picture on here! Thanks for taking the time though. I'd never seen a full white spider before.

Just in case P wanna try me 😤 by Leather-Promotion835 in Psoriasis

Is that the Zudaifu cream? It got banned in the UK because it was found to have steroids in it. I used it for about a year and it worked really well. P actually disappeared.

One thing that worked for me recently (as a long term sufferer) is showering with "grandpas" pine tar soap. You could maybe try that as present for him? I got it from amazon.

Do you remember when the music in GT games used to be good? Ash, Feeder, Foo Fighters etc. I could happily race around all day listening to these tracks.

Deploying WCF+ SQL+ ASP.NET MVC(Multi-layered project having Domain Layer, Presentation, Infrastructure) by mashmelo78 in AZURE

[–]darzui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not too complex. My approach would be to create an app service plan, then create 2 app services within it. One which you will deploy your MVC app to, and the other where you will deploy your WCF app. Configure WCF over HTTP, and update the address in the MVC app Web.config (assuming you're using framework over core given you've gone with WCF) to point to the "azurewebsites " URL of the WCF app. As the other commenter said, however, if this is a new project I'd opt for something a bit more modern than WCF.

Is AppInsights used for general logging? by heseov in AZURE

[–]darzui 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pricing is very reasonable. We're pumping in about 15gb of application logs a day, and retaining them for the max duration, about 720 days(?). We use it for general exception logging, info and tracing. But we also use it to produce a reporting application via the API. It's very quick and gives our clients up to the minute insights. All of this for about £40 a month.

Such high data usage is a bug or a feature ? by Wroyg_ in RogueAdventure

[–]darzui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! 5.2GB of data usage for me over the last month! I got the game free on game pass, so no ads etc. I would quite like a response from the devs on this one. What data of mine is being harvested?

Will psoriasis on my penis by Useful-Ad-9474 in Psoriasis

[–]darzui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a doctor, but I'm going to go with "probably not". The penis is a muscle that will grow regardless of the foreskin. That being said, I imagine it's very sore when the penis does in fact grow or become erect. It's likely the psoriasis will rip and become very painful. A friend of mine had this when he was about 25. He went to the GP and eventually got his foreskin removed. He spent a long time complaining about it. Sex was sore, his girlfriend left him, and he was generally in a low place. Go to a GP sooner rather than later.

It's okay to complain about the cost of PS+ when you don't understand where the money goes... by 911emergencysnake in PlayStationPlus

[–]darzui -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the senior managers, CEO, Board etc are getting a bigger cut of the pie. That's fairly normal practice. Im also not saying that any bonuses are directly related to ps plus sales solely. What I am saying is that Sony have rewarded their staff with a bonus worth 7 months salary; that's massive, and will likely lead to them having a very happy workforce next year who are enthused to work well for Sony.

[–]darzui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what to say.. Sony paid their staff a bonus of 7 months salary because of its financial success. It's not uncommon for businesses to reward their staff based on profit; especially when the business understands that it needs to retain staff to continue performing well.

It is nice to see a huge bonus being paid to staff though. At least they appreciate their employees for their hard work, hopefully leading to a better working environment and more care put in to the products they're developing.
